i have three beginner guitar books:
1)K-I-S-S (Keep It Simple Series) Guide To Playing Guitar: ISBN 0789459795
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789459795/qid=1137616771/sr=2-2/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_2/103-6756517-8331012?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
2)Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method- Grade 1 (1980 edition): ASIN B00071OXLY
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00071OXLY/qid=1137616327/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/103-6756517-8331012?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
3)Solo Guitar Playing Book 1 (Third Edition): ISBN 002870763X
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/002870763X/qid=1137616502/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_3/103-6756517-8331012?s=books&v=glance&n=283155
and also this bible (felt weird throwing away a religious text). the cover is in bad shape, but the inside is completely intact. it has red letters, maps, a dictionary, concordance, and footnotes. it's a "good bible".
Life Applications Study Bible- New International Version (Hardcover): ISBN 0842348921
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0842348921/qid=1137617142/sr=11-1/ref=sr_11_1/103-6756517-8331012?n=283155
...all of these books are free to pick up. claim one now.

ok now all three guitar books are sitting outside my apartment in plastic bags. #3 is by itself and #1 and #2 are in another bag together. i live at lake park on the lake dam road end. the bags are on the retaining wall right next to the road near the bridge at the bottom of the hill. good luck. 1/19/2006 11:56:33 PM |

thats because the only bands people think of that are Christian are the "praise and worship" acoustic rock or really cheesy music. it is also because people have heard maybe 1% of Christian music that is out there. There are LOTS of great underground bands that happen to be Christian, as well as plenty of bands that people dont realize are Christian
Further Seems Forever, hopesfall, underoath, POD, Beloved, Strongarm, MeWithoutYou, As I Lay Dying, Lovedrug, Copeland, Showbread, MXPX, Norma Jean, Anberlin, Starflyer59
thats not a list of all bands that i think are good, rather just a small portion of bands i could list that have huge followings that people may or may not know are Christian bands.
i could make a HUGE list of some absolutely amazing bands that happen to be Christian

i'm bored too. what's with christians defending christian music? it's nothing against jesus (which you'll claim to know), it's just that people have been trying to prove me wrong by finding a christian equivalent to bands i like and it has never worked out. i'm sure there are great underground bands somewhere but i haven't heard them and it seems like i would have by now. it doesn't affect my respect for christianity. no one goes around shoving other christian professionals onto others. why is music the chosen category for spreading into others' lives? i doubt anyone has heard a great christian band and thought, "wow, i'll give this jesus guy a try; the try i wasn't going to give in the first place!" that said, butt out.

well youre very very wrong in your last statement.
i wasnt defending Christian music either...because your first post didnt attack Christian music at all, in fact it didnt come across in the same way your last post did by any means, your last post took it into an entirely different direction that i was going. Rather in my first post i was just mentioning that Christian music has a stereotype which really hurts the very talented non-traditional Christian bands, and many people dont even know that there ARE Christian bands that arent adult contemp or cheesy rock. 'defending' Christian music was nowhere on my mind
Music is a category that works well because of the large amounts of people that listen to music, period.
And to rebuke your last statement, in my band alone, my small local band, we have had id modestly guess over 30 ppl over come to us and basically say exactly what you had in quotes. And i know bands such as Cool Hand Luke and others who have had that exact situations in the hundreds over the last 5 years.

^if you're not open to christianity in the first place, a concert by semi-talented musicians/lyricists isn't going to turn you around. and i think you were defending christian music, which is fine. 1/21/2006 1:50:07 AM |

^^^^ sure if youre COMPLETELY 100% opposed, most likely not. but there are more people that just dont think about it much or are on the fence than 100% opposed. and you can argue all you want about that because i know people personally who ive talked to after shows who our music has opened eyes for, so im not going to argue that point more because ive experiened it and have no need to justify it.
and youre right, i was defending it in my last post, but still not at all in my first post. Im very open about this kind of stuff, Id have no reason to lie about defending Christianity in any form if i indeed was
but ill stop arguing cuz i deifnitely didnt mean to start an argument merely was trying to list some bands ppl might be surprised were CHristian
^^ poor troll attempt

why do christian bands hide their christianity? and why is this "surprise" factor attractive to the non-christian?
i guess i don't get it. christianity is much more attractive than its music.1/21/2006 2:01:18 AM |

i posted it but i didnt continue the argument, which would have been trying to justify it.
Not all of those bands i listed "hide" their Christianity, many are very open in fact. Unfortunately some bands once they make it very large like MTV etc have a tendency to shy away, and my only guess is that they are afraid of the very stigma that "Christian bands suck" and that their Christianity will be unattractive to people who found out they were a Christian band before they hear their music, thus keeping people from listening to them.
I love music, period. There are bands that i love that have members or the entire band who are openly anti-Christian, and there are bands that i love that every song is blatantly Christian. However Some of my favorite bands are Christian (and im talking musically, not because they are Christian), and some of the most talented bands out there are Christian. I just think that almost all Christian music has this stigma of sucking, and because of this i dont feel that many get a chance. which circles back to the fact of people shying away because they are afraid of scaring away potential listeners
The kind of music my band plays, you have no idea how many people automatically assume that no good metal/hardcore band could EVER be Christian. Yet after talking to them they love my band, and multiple other bands that happen to be Christian. (esp in this kind of music, people dont take time to read lyrics sometimes, so unless they see a live performance they might not know a band is Christian, just DL songs and such). And they are completely shocked when they find this out. and it kind of breaks the ice for them like "wow i had no idea there were actually Christian bands that are just like every other band...there members just happen to be Christian"
