For anyone who's ever taken the class - does the Independent Study aspect of the course relate to choosing some topic and writing a 99437503 page paper on it, or is it more of a doing research with a faculty memeber sort of thing or could it be either?
My scholarship wants me to do a research project and says that independent study counts, so I'm just trying to figure out what exactly the English department would let me do, since I imagine most research is reserved for Grad students.
(I do plan to ask Dr. Setzer, but thought that I would ask here as well.) 1/20/2006 2:27:00 AM |

I did an independent study on Madness in 20th Century American Lit. last semester and I was supposed to do an honors thesis, but it became obvious halfway through the semester that it wasn't going to happen. There were no reprecussions to this, we just decided not to do it.
Basically, we developed a syllabus, I read a bunch of books and we got together every other week to discuss what I'd read. I'd turn in a 1 page (single spaced) paper about the readings every time- I think I had 7 total. Then I had a 12 page final paper. It basically depends on what you and your advisor decide. It was a good amount of work (I read a TON), but not unbearable. 1/22/2006 11:47:55 PM |
