Hi,
Has anyone worked on this problem yet? I have tried for an hour but still can not get the right answer. I have posted the diagram in my photo gallery and this is the problem statement.
"The ball D has a mass of 20kg. If a force of F = 100N is applied horizontally to the ring at A, determine the largest dimension d so that the force in cable AC is zero."

To me it looks like the weight/forces don't really matter...just figure out the maximum length of d that keeps the bottom of the triangle 2m and the distance between them 1.5m. Should be solvable with a few versions of pathagorean put together.
But I haven't had statics in like 3 years so I might be totally wrong 1/23/2006 8:27:33 PM |

Quinn, I'm going with 170. But stories over standards. 1/23/2006 11:35:14 PM |
