on their mice up? I liked having them right at my thumb on my olf intellimouse before the power cord gave out and I had to upgrade. It seems the newer the mouse the higher up the thumb buttons have been moved, especially the new microsoft laser mouse. I don't care that some old guy can't help clicking it all the time (my guess for the change) 1/27/2006 3:10:19 AM |

I agree... the best mouse I owned for gaming was my intellimouse which has now been relegated to my work's laptop mouse.
My MX1000's thumb buttons are pretty hard to use, so I don't. Between the N52 and the X52, I've got plenty of other buttons at my fingertips to map for games. 1/27/2006 9:41:44 AM |

They did that because people were accidently hitting the buttons when they moved the mouse side to side. It really sucks filling out a LARGE secure form somewhere, accidently hitting "back" on your mouse, and finding out the form values were all erased. That doesn't happen as much with the higher button placement, as they aren't always under your thumb and therefore hard to accidently depress.
^maybe he meant, look for the old mouse you liked. you can find refurbs and out of production mice through places like tiger direct and I think overstock.com (is that still in buisness?)

I've got an MX1000 and the thumb button placements haven't really bothered me. 1/27/2006 5:37:39 PM |

what bugs me more is that logitech made their trackballs smaller - i have to keep using my ps/2 one from 1999 and cleaning it every other day
why must companies keep trying to get "better" products? 1/27/2006 6:12:25 PM |

like I said, I do...for gaming it's awesome...a flick of the thumb here or there and you've done a 180...i have the senstivity set high so I can do a 360 turn with less than one full roll of the ball...plus nothing beats sitting in a lay-z-boy with keyboard in lap and trackball of the armrest for a good night's gaming 1/28/2006 8:02:40 PM |
