over the last few years i have seen state get the call about 6 times and NEVER seen anyone else get it despite similar dunking actions.

i agree....it was a bad call and will probably cost us the game. it totally swung the momentum around and they were able to make their free throws. if he lets go any earlier, he lands on his back stupid ref!

just saw that on DVR and that was quite possibly the most rediculous call ever, if he lets go he lands on his head. Fuck ACC refs. Mike Wood can suck a cock.

Don't forget Haywood, he spent the better part of his career doing chin-ups. Usually two for every dunk. But no, most rediculous call ever had to be tech on us against maryland in acc tourney for wiping up sweat.

Oh I how could I forget that little gem. I try to not allow my biases get the best of me when it comes to officiating but they make it so hard.

the refs were horrible and yes i agree that the call for the technical for hanging was one of the worst ones i had ever seen in my life

but i think it kind of sparked bennerman to have the performance he did down the line

it might have been the fact that he tapped the backboard on the way down.
however, I still think it was a bad call, although I saw it coming.

he did not tap the backboard on the way down, because I made sure of it on the replay. If he did, then I'm blind, and he's just a dumbass.

It's a little deeper rooted than everyone knows. Mike wood has had it for Bennerman for a while now, see Chapel Hill stare down. Bennerman likes to glide through the air on his dunks. As a result when he grabs the rim, his arms stop moving, but his feet keep moving. Mike Wood should have seen it as a safety measure, but didn't. He likely thought Bennerman was trying to showboat by flying through the air. Mike Wood is awful and should be reprimanded.

No more ridiculous than the coach that got a technical foul a week or so ago when he was basically having a heart attack.

bad call
bennerman had too much behind him not to hang on it
if he hadn't he would have landed on his back

i'm thinking it was the fact that he looked over at the official with the "am i going to get away with it" look that got the call

That's the NBA, B.

Plus, if Shaq falls on anyone, they'll die.

some people are saying that Bennerman touched the backboard on his way down. stupid rule but it wouldn't be the first time we got called for it

you're allowed to do a backflip off the rim in the nba if you want to. there is no rule about that

^^ Yeh it wasn't really a tap board like Julius did back in the day, it was more to steady himself. He definitely did touch the backboard, I just don't know how to classify the touch.

eh I always thought it was an equipment/safety issue but if they are letting much bigger nba guys do it then I guess not

you can touch the backboard, you cant pull up or hang on the rim. If you couldnt touch the board then there would be a tech everytime someone slaps board on a layup.

I left him a voicemail asking that he review the play.
I also requested that Mike Wood be informed of his findings.

The rules in question:

Quote :
"Art. 12. Grasping either basket in an excessive, emphatic manner during
the officials’ jurisdiction when the player is not, in the judgment of an
official, trying to prevent an obvious injury to himself, herself or others.

Art. 14. Intentionally slapping or striking the backboard or causing either the
backboard or ring to vibrate while the ball is in flight during a try, or while the
ball is touching the backboard, is on or in the basket or in the cylinder.

Art. 15. Placing a hand(s) on the backboard to gain an advantage."

So yes, you can hit the backboard after a dunk, because it doesn't affect the ball. However, striking the board could be considered by the official to be "excessive and emphatic."

So, from checking the rules...it's still a judgement call.

And Mike Wood is still a douche.

the only time you can't touch the backboard is when the ball is near the goal in a downward motion for goaltending. that's it.

^and what he said...

I was there, and in the heat of the moment, it looked like showboating to me. I haven't seen the replay or anything, but would have been the right call 5 min into the game.

But I wouldn't like to see that call made down the streach like that.

I can see that, but when you look at:

- the trouble Cam had getting control of the ball
- from where he jumped (just past the ACC in the lane)
- how he would have landed if he'd let go immediately after scoring

The only conclusion is:

-Mike Wood is a douche

Yes very true. I guess if you're SheWill and you do this, it is okay because you look like a dolphin and when dolphin's dunk, it's cute.
