This idea might have already been brought up, but I have no idea for any other thread this hour.
Anyhoo, free thread just in case.
Using Reynolds against UNC and Duke home games. Would bring back a sense of tradition and I cant imagine how loud it would be with a full crowd(Never been in it even close to full).
I know this would kill the amount of tickets that could be sold, but man, that would really give Duke a run for the money as far as hostile enviornments go. Could reynolds fit the season ticket holders, and then allow for expensive tickets for the rest of the seats?
And if that doesnt work, does anyone have a good idea to make the RBC center more hostile? As in, trying to get the entire student section into it? 1/31/2006 7:55:00 PM |

ya lets use the old out of date arena that doesnt hold half as much as the big new state of the art arena!!! great idea. this will bring in alot more money and duke and unc will be shocked to play in a loud building 1/31/2006 8:00:07 PM |

Reynold's has a good use as the home of the women's basketball team... it's just sad that the students don't WANT to attend games there...
the men's team has a home, either support them there or get out of the way of those who will 1/31/2006 8:02:19 PM |

It is my understanding that Reynolds is unbeleivably loud, more so that any new staduim because of the way it was built. And they can throw reynolds in the list of renovations ther got everywhere on campus. 1/31/2006 8:02:42 PM |

Reynolds used to seat, what, 14,000? I'm not sure what the current seating is, but I expect it's still more than half of the RBC Center. And on top of that, as already noted, you could jack up ticket prices and lose no money.
And as for Duke and UNC, they certainly seemed to have trouble with it before.1/31/2006 8:05:51 PM |

^^^^ dumbass, are you familiar with something called supply and demand? If supply decreases, guess what happens? They can make the same amount of money or more if they wanted to do so.
The real sticking point is how you handle season ticket holder.

it would definitely work, i think the point of moving to the ESA was to get more seats for those two big games though. 1/31/2006 8:11:35 PM |

dumbass, theres more money made than just seats. there are advertising commitments, and i dont think they could all be satisfied in reynolds. rbc center is covered in ads. 1/31/2006 8:13:27 PM |

i would just like to see it used for a big out of conference game. not some cupcake like App. State, Hartford, Liberty or N.C. A&T. it would be sweet to use it during the Big 10/ACC Challenge.
also they need to fix the damn seats at the ends of the court.

I think that we should get rid of the seats in the student section and put risers. As seen in the Dean Dome and Cameron Indoor Stadium, many more students could be fit into the sections making us very loud and hostile. I just think there is a lot of waisted space in our courtside student sections. 1/31/2006 10:47:09 PM |

^^^ Whatever setup is in those four rows has to be reconfigurable for hockey, period. Risers aren't. Also, don't ever forget that the student setup at the Dean Dome sucks balls. 2/1/2006 12:18:34 AM |

do the non-permanent seats that most of the students sit in fold down under the stands, or do they have to be installed each time. if so then just not even put them in the sideline areas and have so many students assigned to each sideline pack in there shoulder-to-shoulder. 2/1/2006 12:58:30 AM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
The sideline seats are the same seats used for hockey. They change the stagger a bit for basketball, and put folding chairs where the hockey benches and penalty boxes are. The aluminum risers behind the boards on the ends are the same way, but in front of the boards the aluminum platforms/folding chairs are on top of the ice and have to be moved in and out and reanchored each time.

well what i mean is how do they store those seats. do they fold down and are tucked away, or do they have to be individually installed each time they change it over. if the latter is the case then just go ahead and not put them in on the sidelines for our games, and cram more people in their. it would one make it more raucous, and two even more desirable seats for the students.

though i won't be here for this...
put the ice hockey equipment back in...use it for ice skating PE classes, skating for students (excellent source of revenue), and of course hockey games (which should draw a solid crowd on campus)
there are already ice freezing pipes underneath the floor, but it will require a sizable investment to get ice back in reynolds
obviously the university won't put up this kind of investment, but it would be nice if some wealthy hockey fan hooked up the University 2/1/2006 1:10:47 AM |
vinylbandit All American 48079 Posts user info edit post |
^^ The ones on the ends are picked up and put on racks. 90% of the sideline seats are permanent.
^ They put wall-to-wall floor down, so even the pipes are inaccessible . 2/1/2006 1:14:06 AM |

having one rivarly game per season at reynolds will not keep season ticket holders from purchasing season ticket packages. the alumni are more proud of the tradition and history of that venue then we are. they are also fully aware that it will be the most anticipated game of the season, regardless if you have a ticket or not. if some sort of lottery, or annual distribution of tickets could be organized (as in, season ticket holders are alotted a ticket once every 2 or three years), then it would work. and im sure that alumni would not be dissapointed in watching a televised game from one of the most revered venues in all of college sports that also represents our university.
but youre right, it will never happen 2/1/2006 2:32:28 AM |

i would rather do it the opposite way, have all the shitty games at Reynolds and have all the big games at RBC. Similar to what St. Johns, Nova, and other schools do. 2/1/2006 9:28:27 AM |

Well the three big time schools that have on campus buildings and off campus 'pro buildings' seem to have an even split. Remember Villanova, St. Johns, and UConn have a few 'big games' a year on campus. Just last night Pitt-UConn was at Gampel.. earlier Villanova-OU was at DuPont, and I've seen plenty of bigtime games for St. Johns at Alumni.. 2/1/2006 9:31:27 AM |

Most of the alumni that i know would go ape shit if you tried to take away tickets for the biggest game of the year. Hell, allot of them will not be alive in two or three years when it's their turn for tickets. Many donors to the ESA did so because they were promised the right to buy tickets for these games. Im sure the corporations would just love to be told that they would no longer be able to entertain clients for Duke and Carolina in their luxury boxes that they pay tens of thousands of dollars to rent each year. Tell them to just enjoy the circus and kenny g when he comes to town. The taxpayers also would love it if we didn't use the arena that it was soooo necessary for them to pay for.
As for hockey, great idea but it will not work. Reason they took it out the first time is because equipment and humidity was causing major structual damage to the building. Because of the way it was built with a huge basement under the main playing surface, building couldn't support it.
