I think it's very possible to "get" the AD humor and still miss 2/3rds of the jokes if you haven't been watching all along.

The first five minutes of the third season premiere literally had me on the floor in tears, but my friend who had never watched was as follows: "Live-ins? WTF."

yea definitely. thats one thing i love about the show if youve watched all the previous episodes is that everything flows, its a show that gets funnier as it goes instead of being the same old thing.

every joke builds on itself and gets more and more ridiculous.

the foreshadowing is amazing too. there are so many things that you see when you go back and watch previous episodes and seasons that directly joked or foreshadowed events to come that you might not have paid attention to

The one (foreshadow) that stands out is when GOB does his chicken dance while he and Buster are building the first of the real Sudden Valley houses. The next example/origin of the chicken dance doesn't come up until ten episodes later.
