I've been connecting to my unity account since coming to State in 2003 using Macmail with no issues. Today, no matter what i try to do to check my e-mail, it automatically says I am working offline. Any ideas as to why and how to circumvent the problem?

Oooh, I'll be first and say "don't use a mac"

But yeah, I don't really know what might just suddenly be causing this problem. Are you able to browse the web alright? Have you tried restarting? Have you tried other imap email clients? Have you tried checking the server settings in macmail and making sure they didn't become corrupted or accidently changed? If all that fails, maybe call 515-help

Yeah, I can browse the web and access webmail with no problem. Naturally I've restarted the computer and all of the settings appear to be correct, for unity and my bellsouth DSL.

I sent in an e-mail to the help desk - no reply yet.

Have you tried resetting your router/dsl modem? I've found that some sites and services just won't work until I reboot my router. Damned annoying too.

If you set your unity IMAP up 3 years ago they wanted you to, you may have to reconfigure your settings. They changed the way you access the IMAP a while back (but after 3 years), and they may have just got around to pruning off the old method.

Just do a search on the NCSU website for setting up IMAP, and re-do the server settings.

I don't like the .mac mail integration with Apple Mail. For some strange reason, .mac doesn't support folder prefixes, such that all folders are on the same hierarchal level as the inbox. Apple Mail respects this hierarchy and displays them all on the same level (and all over the 'account tree') and not under the respective mailbox name.

Whereas, with IMAP, you generally have mailboxes that exist under the main Inbox, where Apple Mail nicely organizes the folders under the mailbox name in the 'account tree'
