Alright, so my girlfriend goes to start her car this morning...won't start. I go out there a few hours later. It cranks over for a loooong time, then fires up and runs normally. The air filter isn't clogged, it has a full tank of gas and is apparently getting gas, as it runs like a charm once it is actually running. It doesn't make any funny noises, the computer doesn't throw any codes, it's got plenty of oil, and there isn't anything visibly wrong. Any suggestions? It's a 1996 Monte Carlo with a 3100 V6. 2/1/2006 11:04:26 PM |

That is something I checked, we have spark. And I'd assume that fuel pressure is decent, as it DOES start...eventually. Also, wouldn't fuel pressure affect driveability? Once it starts, it runs and drives fine, like there are no problems. It's almost like it has dirty injectors, but it just started doing this overnight. 2/1/2006 11:16:01 PM |

I wonder if you have fuel pressure right off the get-go...or is it bleeding down at night?
#2...what about cam position sensor? NM, you said it wasn't throwing codes...
I'd bet you got no immediate fuel pressure, and there's air in the lines that has to bleed out...like the check valve in the fuel pump ain't checkin'... 2/1/2006 11:40:33 PM |

The light isn't on, hasn't been on since it was serviced, and the computer was cleared 1,000 miles ago when it was last serviced (needed a new o2 sensor). I'm going out on a limb that there aren't any codes. And I have no way of checking the fuel pressure. 2/1/2006 11:54:06 PM |

if it happens again, try giving a quick spray of starting fluid. if it fires right up and runs fine afterward, then you have a pressure problem. i forget what the fuck it's called and not sure if it applies to your vehicle, but i helped a buddy work on a late 80's jeep one time and we couldn't figure out why we couldn't get it to crank without ether or pouring a little gas in the carb. same situation as yours. we found out it was a bad fuel pump along with a bad regulator. after replacing both, the initial fuel pressure would be 32, then drop to 18 after the engine started. we were only getting 18 at startup, which preventing the engine from running without a swift kick in the ass. 2/2/2006 7:50:46 PM |

^uh, you sure? 32 and 18 are not psi numbers that should be observed on a carb motor... you'd have quite and unhappy carb.
as for this problem, sounds like to also that it's taking to long to build pressure for some reason (leak down, weak pump, etc..) how's it do if you start it shortly after shut down? i thought she had a honda...? 2/2/2006 8:12:02 PM |

my friend has that problem with her cherokee. it cranks up for a long time also. you have to try twice to get it to start. i'm guessing the first time is to build pressure.
fuel filter?
