I've got a 01 Giant XTC with some Manitou fork (SX maybe?.) Cheap discs on the front and Avids in the rear.
I'd like to get a stiffer frame though. Cheap aluminum flexes like a motherfucker with someone my size riding it. 2/2/2006 11:36:54 AM |

My bike has been little more than a street cruiser for the past year. New Light is nice, but it is supposed to be closed right now. You should be able to find trail info at http://www.trianglemtb.com/. 2/2/2006 12:21:31 PM |

Road bikes scare me. Fast speeds,110 psi skinny tires, sketchy steering (them skinny handlebars), being all hunched over which puts your teef that much closer to the road if you go over the bars. Skack doesn't like.

I have an '05 Trek 4500...hydraulic disc brakes, eggbeater pedals...I love it. Around here I ride Crabtree, Umstead, Lake Johnson (not much fun though), and a place out in Garner.
If you really want some nice trails though, go to Pisgah. I spent a weekend biking in Pisgah in November. 30+ miles a day. Beautiful trail, but hard as fuck. It was awesome. 2/2/2006 1:39:46 PM |

When was the last time you went and what parts of the trail did you ride? For starters, they recently added a couple of jumps and some skinnies (maybe 6" wide?) across some small ditches (3-5ft gaps, 2ft deep). Then, there are the couple of sections of woops that are tons more fun than just about everything Crabtree has to offer. Then they also have what I call the terrain section which has a lot of combinations of ways you can ride through it, including 2 drops that are better than anything at Crabtree.
I'm already planning to ride tomorrow afternoon, would love to make it Rocky Road and if some of you guys are down I'd be up for going to Beaver Dam Saturday and hitting all the loops there (inner, outer, west, south, drop zone).

I went a couple of weeks ago, I usually do beginner/intermediate on my way in, and spend most of my time in advanced and expert. I don't know the technical names for any of the stuff, the expert portion is fun, I'd like to be in better shape but hey.
I'd do beaver dam, or rocky road tomorrow, (ok to go around 4?) anybody wanna give me directions to either of those? Thanks Ahmet 2/2/2006 5:20:42 PM |

Can anyone get over to crabtree/rr earlier than 4:30? I'm thinking about getting out of work around 3-330 and hitting crabtree for a warm up, then over to RR for the real fun....of course, this is all assuming it didn't rain too much tonight, I was inside swimming so I don't know.
As far as Saturday, I don't think 12:30 is too earlier, last week I swam at 9:30 and hit BD by 1. Again, the question is how much did it rain, because the Crabtree folks aren't too anal about opening the trial up where-as it seems BD is quite anal. 2/2/2006 8:30:56 PM |

i have an 04 rockhopper with ATAC pedals and avid dics. oh and a nightrider light system. (if you haven't tried night riding on the trails, do it. its a blast)
if you aren't aware of the CHHS trails, you should definately check them out.
I miss the mtb'ing in raleigh. It was nice having a trail to ride within a 10 minute drive, and really awesome trails within a 20 minute drive. now i'm in atlanta, and EVERY trail down here is at least 45 minutes away. so you have to allow a hour and a half just in travel time. i'm just getting back into riding after taking some time off due to an injury. due to driving distance and work schedule, its going to be tough to ride with any frequency.
