I installed MythTV, but when I run mythfilldatabase I get a HTTP 500 error (internal server error). Is there any way to watch TV in MythTV without listings?

Yes, it is entirely possible to watch TV and even record it without running mythfilldatabase. If your TV/encoder card it working properly then "Watch TV" on the main screen should work.

Also, to get the mythfilldatabase to work, make sure that you have a valid subscription to the channel service.
