Currently in Seattle:

160,000 homes and businesses were knocked off the power grid Saturday due to massive windstorms.

100,000+ are still out of power. and the superbowl is 14 hours away.

luckily, i have a 1kVA generator that can run my tv, my computer, and a couple lamps. fuck the fridge, ive got a cooler full of ice.

but a whole bunch other people are going to need to change their superbowl party plans.

nobody ripped off anyone. they just retired teh #12 jersey some 20 years ago in honor of the fans. i dont know why TAMU has a problem with that.

and we do have the loudest home crowd in the NFL.

aha

it is a pretty big thing at A&M

while the 'hawks' was just a publicity stunt to get fans to come to games

[Edited on February 5, 2006 at 3:52 AM. Reason : ^ only because of the way the stadium was built]

yeah, because thats the reason why home games still sell out even during bad seasons.

oh, youre a structural engineer now? what the hell do you know? its built like any other open roof, grass field stadium -- and fully approved by the NFL at all phases during design and construction.

It really just seems to be a case of any press is good press, considering Texas A&M must be feeling completely overshadowed by Texas at the moment.

i agree

i am just big on tradition, i'll be honest, i didnt know about seattle's 12th man b/c i didnt pay any attention to the seahawks. but the 12th man is special at A&M, not just some marketing ploy that was used a while ago to keep fans

ACTUALLY:

is not a true open roof stadium. its a partial roof stadium, and no its not like "any other open roof, grass field stadium" in that it was built to be loud. Notice how steep the seating is on either side of the field. Notice the overhanging roof which was designed to bounce sound around, much like an indoor arena yet without actually being indoors.

That's another good illustration of the roof. Also, see the closed in part of the bowl? That also keeps sound in the stadium. They also have the queer triangle endzone known as the "Hawk's Nest," which probably doesn't do much acoustically for the volume, but i just personally hate the design.

isnt the hawks nest made of metal bleachers? thus, fans bang their feet on them (like college games) to make additional noise
