^ well i wouldn't exactly say that. UNC got a #1 seed last year after winning the regular season title, even though they left the conference tournament early, and Duke won the conference tournament and got a #1 seed due to that. if they wouldn't, they would have more than likely gotten a #2 seed.

Even if duke lost to carolina and to another team we would still not share the ACC #1 spot... it wouuld go to Duke since they won in our only head to head matchup. They would have to loose 3 for us to have a chance.

if UNC beats Duke the pressure is really on Duke to not lose again. Having Duke at 9-1 and NCSU at 8-2 would be thrilling. unfortunately, Duke's remaining schedule besides UNC is really not too intimidating. I don't really get the point on hoping UNC loses solely to keep UNC from challenging NCSU's spot in the standings... what does NCSU gain by being farther away from #1?

I guess the real question is:

If the ACC standings were:
#1 NCSU 11-5
#2 Duke 10-5
#3 UNC 8-7

and UNC was playing @ Duke in the last game of the season, with no other games remaining, and Duke had beaten NCSU previously in the season, who do you want to win the game, UNC or Duke?

We would still be ACC Regular Season Co-Champions, just look up in the rafters at the RBC, the ACC recognizes anyone that finishes with the best record. The only thing that would matter would be the tournament seeding.

If Duke loses, we have another team biting at our heels (aha) and quite frankly I don't see us surviving miami.
