Anarchy in the UK is what it's about, yo.

To be serious, it's about a fascist/totalitarian regime and one man's fight to bring it down.

That's complete bullshit. Are you telling me that all the other Alan Moore adaptations got his personal stamp of approval? He's said before that once he sells the movie rights, his involvement is done; he doesn't read the screenplay, doesn't visit the set, doesn't watch the movie. And the only reason he even sells the movie rights is because he gives all the money to the artists. Moore went through a pretty heated contract dispute with DC last year, and it was right after that that he demanded his name be pulled from the movie. For what it's worth, Dave Gibbons saw the movie and said it was about 80% faithful to the source material and fully understood why they chose to change certain things.

And regardless, deviation from the source material has nothing to do with the actual quality of the movie.

Just from seeing the trailer, I know it will be 1000% more accurate than The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

its ok FK thinks that if a "comic book movie" isn't 100% sourced from print its going to suck.

I thought he left Wildstorm/DC because of what they did with the League movie?

I think its interesting that John Hurt plays the leader of a fascist government when he played Winston in 1984.

You should the 1984 version of...1984 is a pretty faithful adaptation. Increasing the weird factor its also the year that the V ongoing television series began .

Can't wait to see it, Hugo weaving behind a mask = everything wide open. I can only gather from the previews that a futuristic british government did some experiments on him and eventually created the character V.

May this be played out similar to the Matrix trilogies, focusing on the equilibrium between good and evil? That would be an excellent theme in the movie simply because Hugo would play the inherently good character engendered from an evil source rather than the exact opposite in the Matrix.

Not at all. But shifting the central theme from fascism vs. anarchy to fascism vs. democracy does the work a disservice.

WAAAAAAAH!

MASSIVE DEPARTURES FROM THE SOURCE MATERIAL!!!

Just once, ONCE, I'd like to see a movie come out that's based on or inspired by a book or comic that doesn't unleash the "it's not the original story" parrots.

I'm sure it'll begin with something like:

"Based on..." "Inspired by..."

And I'm sure the original author was well compensated for this tragedy. This is the risk you take in selling the rights to your story, after all.

I'll see it in the theatres. I'm looking forward to it more than any movie since Goblet of Fire (which angered me more than any movie since Matrix Reloaded). I haven't read the comics, so hopefully I won't be that disappointed.

Gauging from the negative press it's getting at Drudge Report, I'll probably love it.

You know, it's not like I'm concerned about something as trivial as the color of a character's hair or something. I'm talking about a major shift in the theme of the story.

I'm with Froshkiller. You can take a good story, put it in another setting, mix some things up and still call it by the original story's name and it can be a good, even great movie (see: Throne of Blood by Akira Kurosawa). But when you change the fucking THEME, then try to pass it off under the same name, I start to smell rat.

I was actually in the middle of writing my post when you mentioned what had changed about the story.

I fundamentally agree with you. Altering a plot that significantly is stretching artistic license farther than I'd expect even Hollywood to. It sounds like an adequate analogy would be taking the Matrix and making aliens the enslavers of humans instead of the machines they created.

But I guess that's not even out of bounds these days. Have you've happened to read the back of the re-make of the Poseidon Adventure? Terrorists attack the ship. Not a wave. Terrorists.

^^^are you talking about the newest remake of PA that hasn't come out yet called simply, Poseidon?

cause i thought they were sticking with a big ass wave, at least from what i've seen.

---just checked, its still a big ass wave..and this makes me want to make a thread about this movie, so here i go.....

most theatres in the area are showing the movie Thursday night at 10pm.

I believe the $4.50 discount at the Raleigh Grande still applies to this movie for that showing..

it's directed by James McTeigue who worked on all 3 matrix movies (assistant director)....
it's written and produced by the wachowski bros.... that made all 3 matrix movies...

and for shits and giggles they even brought back Hugo Weaving....

so yeah, like I said, it's made by the guys that did Matrix

I liked this movie a lot. The preview made me think there was going to be more action scenes, but that didn't take away too much from the movie. The dialogue was funny, but annoying only in a few scenes. There were some slow parts to the movie...that kinda sucked. But somehow I still liked this movie a lot.
There are def. more things I liked about this movie than I disliked.

Anyone else see this yet?
