when the weathers nice it would be cool to have a big screen to watch our away/tourney (or even overfilled home) games on the brickyard as one huge mass. it would be better than reynolds because everyone would be loose. ive seen some schools doing this and theyll show it during the game like "theyre lovin every minute of it back in raleigh on the brickyard" 2/7/2006 12:52:01 PM |

they did that on espn during one of the reynolds viewings a few years ago. espn brought camera men over and shot us cheering.
i dont see how doing it outside is any better then reynolds though.

would be interesting nonetheless to have a large screen suspended from DH Hill on a regular basis....would make the atmosphere of the brickyard much more lively (as if that's a problem)
but if you've seen the way the screens are positioned outside of the Bobcats Arena, it's a pretty cool effect outdoors 2/7/2006 1:29:06 PM |

someone email: Kyle Fox President union_president@ncsu.edu
see what he has to say (it's be the union that would probably have to pay for it) 2/7/2006 2:20:36 PM |

It would probably be better if it was done somewhere where everyone could sit on grass instead of the brick IMO. Like over on east campus by the Bell Tower. 2/7/2006 2:24:40 PM |

^ yeah but most of the campus traffic occurs on the Brickyard. 2/7/2006 3:08:30 PM |

^^ If you are talking about regular away games that happen at night, then there really isn't that much traffic in the brickyard. If you mean we should have a screen when we're in the ACC tourny/NCAA tourny and possibly playing an earlier game when lots of classes are going on, then I think having it in the brickyard is a great idea. 2/7/2006 3:14:56 PM |

I mean we should have a screen at all times, and if a game appears then put it on Kind of like the titontron in Times Square
and the brickyard is a third grass (where the Wolf Ears are...the place that you sit and can talk to the person in the other one) 2/7/2006 3:32:58 PM |

yeah i meant for those early mid-day games when a ton of people are in classes.
i like the idea of having a screen in the brickyard, that would make it seem like Times Square. very modern, and does anyone know if any other campus has one. they could put announcements on there as well. it'd be cool to sit outside of the atrium and watch some tv even if it was subtitled. 2/7/2006 4:16:33 PM |

^^the one on the side of the Bobcats Arena works just fine in the sun, so does the one that was on Ford Stadium
those among many other examples have proven it's possible...
eh, I just looked up an example of what one would cost, that woudl work in direct sunlight... http://www-ru.displays.ru/eng/prices_of_large_full_color_electronic_screens_signs_displays.htm
evidently, over what we could ever raise for one ($150,000)

could you set up a screen that faces away from the sun when it's later in the day, like say 2 pm? also what about putting it on the wall on the atrium side of the library so students could sit at the tables and watch the screen? 2/7/2006 7:34:57 PM |

^thats like 3$ per student (i know many pple wont pay but many pple will pay huuge)
i thought about this all day and it wont happen because some fag will bring up how the sound/crowd noise will "disturb the people in the library" 2/7/2006 7:37:29 PM |
lahyde All American 3327 Posts user info edit post |
well, sound won't be a problem...and yes, there is a University policy against amplified sound in the brickyard (car stereo being the only way around this)
the crowd....well, I don't think that'll be a problem either because we have a pretty large crowd at 12:45 every day in the brickyard (little side trivia...Wednesday is the largest crowd of the week, every week, because it's always the time when the most number of people are on campus)
So, if you think the money can be raised, why not. I'm sure if we put enough work into it one person woudl donate the money just to have their name put on it...or even a business like Wachovia (ironic that the University plays in the RBC but banks with Wachovia)
So, here's what you do from here.... 1) Research funding methods 2) Contact Facilities and the University Architect to see if this is a feasible plan. If you don't get the University Architect on your side, it won't happen--period. It has to be installed into the master plan, which means that the BOT has to approve it. 3) Ask SG and IRC to back you up on this, as at least IRC has significant pull with Facilities 4) Ask UAB Board of Directors to help fund this, and provide momentum through their resolutions. THey have a lot of sway on this too
If you do those 4 things, you'll be 80% of the way toward getting it
...and what the hell, I'll ask the Chancellor and Dr. Stafford what they think next time I see them...that should be interesting...
