I'm getting a dell 21" widescreen in a the next couple of weeks and am looking to get rid of my ibm p202. The monitor so far has been rock solid, whereas I bought it from an online dealer, it was delivered without any problems. The only thing that has occured is a line of I guess pixels has died. It's a very faint gray line that only shows up on white backgrounds.
Also, there is a few stickers that I added (GT4, Atari and Sound Blaster) and some black magic marker that came on the monitor when I got it.
Would anyone be interested? 2/7/2006 9:35:12 PM |

That line is perfectly normal, its the shadow from the wire that holds the aperture grill in place. Its called the "Trinitron lines".
Pretty much every monitor that size is going to have them. Like he said, you only really notice it if you're looking for it. 2/7/2006 11:01:09 PM |

they are called "Damper Wires" and the lines are actually two horizontal wires that stabilize the vertical wires in the tube, you can see the vertical wires shake if you bump the monitor on the right or left side. The reason for the damper wires is to stabilize these vertical wires and keep them from constantly causing a wierd image distortion.
And yes, they are perfectly normal and have been there since the monitor was made. 2/8/2006 12:10:04 AM |
