because I don't know the answer to your question, I'm gonna be a typical tech talk asshole and say

http://www.google.com

I don't have an ipod, but i know friends that have been able to do what you're wanting, but they said they needed to have a special program to do it. I don't know if the program is used to do the actual transfer of files, or if it sits between your ipod and itunes... if you can't find anything, ill ask some of them when they get home from work this afternoon

edit: im not a big fan of about.com, but here is a link to a list of software that may help you out. http://macs.about.com/od/ipod/a/copy_from_ipod.htm

If Windows formatted... EphPod or SharePod.

I've posted the links before, you can find them.

Transfer the files via PC through window explorer. Don't ever forget that your iPod is a glorified harddrive.

Got it. What I am trying to do is upload songs from one IPOD to a computer, then place them on another IPOD. Will the Ephpod do this?

^^ You don't need special software to do that. Just view your iPod like a removable storage device.

Both of the programs I posted about will. I've used both.

SharePod is just nice because it runs off the iPod itself. However, I have had it come up needing a DLL file before so I just had them install EphPod.

Yes. iTunes changes the filenames of the files to complete nonsense (at least at a quick glance). I think you can copy files directly over to the correct folder and the iPod will play them, but, normally everyone just used iTunes initially.

Just download EphPod and enjoy. I've got both programs, EphPod is both on my laptop and my home desktop. SharePod is on the iPod just in case.

^ The file names are changed, but the ID3 tag remains in-tact.

As long as your music is tagged, re-importing them will have the correct ID3 information. Alternatively, you can use one of the many apps to rename a file based on ID3, or set your iTunes to automatically manage music, and it should rename/re-folder the files correectly.

I'm not sure of this, but doesn't the ipod need the files to be inserted into the database (ie with itunes) in order to show up in the ipod's library?

in other words, I think that for this to work correctly, you'd have to rip the files from the ipod onto the computer using ephpod, then load them onto the other ipod with itunes or ephpod or whatever
