There are about 100 exel help threads so I'm sorry if this is a repeat. I would like to have a cell that has a finite number of choices, such as you click on the cell and you can pick either cat dog or fish from a list. From there the informantion would change other things in the spreadsheet but I think I have that covered. I have tried the help and serched google but nothing is turning up what I wan to do. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

do you need a dropdown box for a user to use? or is this for your own use?

because if you don't, then you can leave a blank cell and then have all your needed choices below it. then right click on the blank cell and select "Pick from drop-down list..." from the popup window

user to use, it isn't going to be used by many people but I would like others to use it without an hour of explaining

do you want an autofilter?

for instance:

Animal Name Month Day
Dog Kudos October 9
Dog Sam August 4
Cat Gadget May 20
Cat Socks June 13

select one of the cells in the table and select Tools -> autofilter from the menu. Animal, Name, Month, and Day will become drop down boxes containing choices listed in the table.

The Animal dropdown would contain "Dog" and "Cat". Name would contain all 4 names and so forth. If you select Dog from the animal drop down then everthing that isnt a dog disappears and the other dropdowns are adjusted accordingly. Try it.... it might be what you're looking for.
