Do you think we will see protests against this lunacy from the "progressive" Islamic community?

as a society they're like a little kid that desperately wants to be treated like an adult and with respect but just CAN'T STOP acting like a 2 year old.

^^I totally agree. They seriously need a timeout and a nap. Maybe they can use Mr. Blanket to cover up and go to sleep for a while. Then afterwhile they might not be so cranky.

just because your bigotted ass believes muslims to be bloodthirsty maniacs doesn't make it true.

i blame the corrupt/shitty leaders of muslim countries for riling up their citizens. remind you of any other country?

^i never said that. you implied that muslims are more likely resort to violence than christians are. that was the racist bit. i think violence is harmful to most causes. i just want you to show some proof for sweeping statements like the ones you've said.

^^the story is pretty new at this point. but the cleric doesn't seem to be too serious about this bounty.

Quote :
"``This is a unanimous decision of by all imams (prayer leaders) of Islam that whoever insults the prophet deserves to be killed and whoever will take this insulting man to his end, will get this prize,'' Qureshi said.

Qureshi did not name any cartoonist in his announcement. He did not appear aware that 12 different people had drawn the pictures - considered blasphemous by Muslims.

"

like most violent hate-mongers, this guy doesn't know the first thing about what he's upset about. he's probably just trying to gain some notoriety. he has no intention of actually giving anyone any money.

it's not racist, it's true
i mean should i cite examples? one eerily similar example is of theo van gogh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theo_van_Gogh_%28film_director%29#Van_Gogh.27s_murder

i wish muslims would listen to moderate clerics like akbar hashemi rasfanjani who are calling for a controlled response. i understand the outrage, but if muslims ever want to be taken seriously by the world they need to stop doing shit like this.

i said that there hasn't been outrage for it yet. there probably will be. i have heard (on the radio, so no links, sorry) muslims saying that the protests and all are overreactions to the cartoons.

also, 30th, note the slash in that quote, at that point i hadn't looked into the story more. The story is still pretty new, so there hasn't been coverage of the reaction to it (that i have found), thus the future tense side of the slash. I can't very well prove something that hasn't happened yet.

and the last time i checked, you two were the ones who had the unfounded statements first.

the slash makes that 2 seperate statements chief.

i'm done, as you are worthless. you make claims as if they are factual and then refuse to prove your position.

just want to point out that neither of you have shown any proof either. once someone kills your hate-monger party, you leave for a more hospitable thread.

[Edited on February 17, 2006 at 1:20 PM. Reason : and the slash separates two possibilities, as far as i know the second part isn't true]

i posted 2 questions and 1 opinion. where is any of that a claim of any factual nature?

you, however, made 2 claims as if they are factual. one is that there will be outrage in the future over this, and the other that there already has been.

one of the questions i asked was "where is this outrage?" you have dodged that and then turned an arguement around. to begin with, this isn't even about my claims of factuality, and even if it were, i haven't made any. this is about YOURS.

but i will say good day for good now.

if people in the US offered millions of dollars worth of bounties every time a religion was offended in the US there would be millions of contract killers and you would all be dead, or at least wanted

^^i haven't found any evidence of outrage. i said that above. sorry if my wording above was misleading. what i meant was that there probably already was outrage about this guy's statement from the muslim world OR there will be. i have not seen any evidence that there already has been.

my issue with what you have said is this one:

Quote :
"as a society they're like a little kid that desperately wants to be treated like an adult and with respect but just CAN'T STOP acting like a 2 year old.

"

maybe it's an opinion. BUT it's irresponsible and stereotyping a billion people based on the actions of a very small bit of them.

i don't understand how stereotyping a "society" is somehow acceptable. just because the western perception of muslim society is negative, doesn't mean that the western view is correct. you are only reinforcing this perception, which is unfortunate, especially if you recognize that most of the muslim population does not participate or condone of this sort of violent and stupid behavior.

How about this for proof: Pat Robertson said he was sorry for saying that and he hoped everyone would understand that it was a misunderstanding.

http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/24/robertson.chavez/

It only took Pat two days to figure out his audience wasn't going to stand for his idiotic statement and appologized, how long until the Cleric says he is sorry?

^^^DG, that might be the closest to the truth.

i'm not saying that robertson and this guy are equivalent. i'm just trying to point out that idiotic violent threats aren't confined to the muslim world. they happen all the time. lest we forget about the IRA or the KKK or skinheads or countless other radical terrorist groups.

^^israel maybe. but i think most of this is due to their leaders using israel (and more recently the US) as a distraction from the real problems facing their nations. this is unfortunate. while i don't agree with many of the policies of israel (or palestine), the rest of the Middle East needs to look at themselves first.

Oh, I'd say that there were more christians protesting his statement than there were christians burning down embassies, making threats, and killing people in the streets.

Sure, you can't come down and judge the billions of muslims for the actions of a few million but the silent muslim community isn't exactly doing wonders for their PR. If violent people are claiming to represent the muslim faith and they are acting up in this manner it is in the best interest of the real muslim community to be outraged. It's their name on the line.

The peaceful muslim community should be speaking out against the violent acts being committed. Showing the world that they do not condone these violent acts should at least be equal to the acts themselves in terms of news coverage, otherwise the muslim community will lose ground in what is already a PR battle.

If someone accused you of committing a crime that you didn't commit would you try to fight to keep your good name clean or would you be silent and let everyone assume guilt. Assumed guilt is how the world works unfortunately.

^^That's not the point. The point is the average person sees "muslims" declaring death to the west every time they turn on a TV, read a paper, or listen to the radio. You have to search for any news story on muslim outrage. Who do you think is winning the PR battle?

If the muslims would express their outrage en masse then it would get coverage. Like I said earlier, it will take a number greater than or equal to the number of violent "muslims" expressing their disapproval for them to make any headway in the PR department. As to why they aren't... I'm guessing that the true muslims are too afraid to speak out because of fear of retaliation by their governments or the mobs they control.

peaceful muslims do get coverage, in fact the person i mentioned i heard on the radio.
the problem is that there aren't enough of them, and they are often not in the places that need them the most. if more respected clerics started speaking out about these types of actions they would make the news more and more.
