A man is shot and quickly buried in the high desert of west Texas. The body is found and reburied in Van Horn’s town cemetery. Pete Perkins, a local ranch foreman (TOMMY LEE JONES) kidnaps a Border Patrolman and forces him to disinter the body. With his captive in tow and the body tied to a mule Pete undertakes a dangerous and quixotic journey into Mexico.
Directed by and starring Tommy Lee Jones. Written by Guillermo Arriaga, the writer of 21 Grams and Amores Perros, one of my absolute favorite movies of all time. This movie's had a lot of buzz about it for a while now, but it seems like it will actually be worth the wait. It's got a 7.8 on IMDB and 79% on RottenTomatoes. Anyways, it looks good. Won best actor (Jones) and best screenplay at Cannes.
Most likely, this will be coming out on the 24th of February at Galaxy Cinema. I'll update with the times when I know for sure.
"Tommy Lee Jones has crafted a modern Western worthy of Peckinpah with a message of racial understanding that's as relevant (and subversive) as anything you'll find in movies today." -- Glenn Whipp, LOS ANGELES DAILY NEWS
"As a vision of the American West and the wide country around it, Tommy Lee Jones's western strikes both fresh and familiar chords, most of them pleasingly dissonant." -- Manohla Dargis, NEW YORK TIMES
"Jones, screenwriter Guillermo Arriaga and a crew blessed with pristine vision have delivered a tale of friendship and ethics worthy of Greek tragedy." -- Lisa Kennedy, DENVER POST

Showtimes at 1:50, 4:20, 7:00, and 9:35.
I enjoyed the movie, and the staff that saw it really really liked it. I was a little let down because I was expecting something more like Amores Perros, but I would still definitely recommend this movie. Tommy Lee Jones was great. January Jones, who as far as I know is of no relation, was hot. WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? 2/24/2006 7:22:57 PM |
