With the way UNC has been playing, how can they possibly deserve a number 5 seed in the NCAA tourney?

any thoughts?

ummm, I'm not a UNC fan at all, but havent they been playing well as of late?

Sat, Feb 4 Clemson W 76-61
Tue, Feb 7 (2) Duke L 83-87
Sun, Feb 12 at Miami (FL) W 80-70
Wed, Feb 15 Georgia Tech W 82-75
Sun, Feb 19 at Wake Forest W 83-72

they have won 4 of thier last 5 and barely lost to what will be the number one team when todays polls come out.

if they keep playing well, a 5 seed is not outrageous.

that would also mean they get the old 5 vs 12 in the first round.

I would love it!!

FUCK THE HEELS!

they have been in the mid 20s all season, they have taken some pretty shitty losses and even if they are on a roll, their record still doesnt warant it.

if they have been ranked in the 20s most of the year, how is a 5 seed far-fetched?

^ lol, seriously.

4 of each seed.

#5 x 4 = #20

right where the Holes are at.

add the fact that they are playing better than earlier this season......

they could get higher.

I really dont see us (NCSU) getting higher than a #4....even if we run the table and win out....

They deserve it! We just better hope we win Wednesday night. If not, we may be tied with them in the conference.

Well, they would be tied, but since they would have beaten us twice if they win on Wednesday, they would be second in the conference due to tiebreaker.

carolina still has @ NCSU, MD, UVA and @ Duke.

@ NCSU and @ Duke *SHOULD* be two losses, and they could drop 1 or 2 against MD or UVA.

If they went 0-4 to end the season, it would be a miracle. But it won't happen.

if we win out, and that includes the ACC Tourney, then we will probably be up for a number 2 or 3. that would put us 27-5, and ACC Champs, definately a 3, probably a 2, playing in greensboro

i'd like to see us in the bracket with Gonzaga as the #1 seed.

Gonzaga would spank us.

And I highly doubt they will be a one seed, unless more of the top 10 falls out... the zags are at best a 3.

I think that if we do win out, beating UNC and BC, and do fairly well in the ACC tourny, Semis, we could end up with a 3 seed. Gonzaga should be a two seed. I want to be in the bottom half with the 2 seed that is like a George Washington??

haha, i love how you don't even mention Wake when you say "if we win out", they are nothing this year even though they were predicted to be in front of us in the ACC this year

The Zag's wont be a 1 seed...but GW could potentially be a 2 seed if they win out. I'm not saying it's going to happen, but it could potentially happen. Undefeated in conference play and conference champions with their only loss coming away against a potential top-15 team in the Wolfpack??

I don't think that would be a stretch.

with these new rankings out, it gives us a chance if we go 2-0 this week, to have a legitamate shot at a number 2/3 and a game at Greensboro.

i was just lookin back at 2003 when we got the number 3 seed, and we were 10-3 in the conference going into a week where we played 2 top 20 teams, and we lost both. I hope that shit doesnt happen this year, however, we still finished no. 2 and got a 3 seed in the tourney.

ya know its kinda shitty how BC is ranked higher than us when we have the same overall record, a better conference record and we beat 'em.....

not really. the polls measure recent trends.

i see no reason to believe pollsters take any of those factors into account.

The polls are not an accurate prediction of seeding.

There have been numerous examples of "top 10" teams getting 5 or 6 seeds....

UNLV was ranked #25 one year and didnt even get an at-large bid period.

The RPI accurately predicts seed within +/- one seed for about 75% of the teams.

HAHAHAHAHAHA. I hope we do play them. But if we do it will have to be 1st or 2nd round because everyone knows they are overrated like always. They have lost in the 1st two rounds 5 years running. What a dynasty!!!

We played Gonzaga a couple of years ago and they spanked us. Who on NC State could guard Morrison? With that said, I still think we'd win, but it'd be close.

morrison isnt going to singlehandedly beat a good team.

Morrison put 43 on Michigan State and Gonzaga won.

How many times has JJ put Duke on his back and won them games. One good player can win a game, against a good team. Gonzaga has solid role players with Ravio and Batista. Not many teams have someone who can guard a 6-8 forward who shoots like Morrison.

^^^^^ Are you a moron? Who has ever said Gonzaga is a dynasty, Gonzaga has done nothing but dominate the WCC and make a good run in the NCAA's. As much as I love the team they are hardly a dynasty. And as to them being a two seed? I highly doubt that, keep in mind last year they were 26-5, #3 in the country and given only a 3 seed. A 3 seed they deserved as they lost to Texas Tech in the second round. I think the team this year has the potential to go much further then the second round but the WCC lowers them to the level of the other mediocre teams in the conference. And for the record, I hope we don't play Gonzaga, they would kick our ass and I would hate to cheer against them.

We get matched up with them you PM me. I have $100 on us as NCSU to beat the powerful Zags.

Making it to the 2nd round every year or losing in the 1st round is not a good run BTW.

Pack - I'll take that bet, and by the way - Where did Gonzaga come from... maybe their two sweet sixteen runs in '00 and '01, thats the good run I'm talking about. Since they became overrated and started getting good seeds they've been doing bad in the tournament, the hypes crippled them.

Gonzaga has the type of team that we would match up against assuming they're a #2 seed. We could stick GG for the assignment of striclty chasing Morrison around, Box-And-One, speaking of which, do teams in the WCC execute this? Ravio is nothing that we don't see in the ACC, same with Batista. Ideally, I'd like to be in the bracket with Nova#1 and the Zags #2, but I doubt that would ever happen. Nova is good, but the three ball will never take you to the final four, case in point, us. People don't understand that UCONN losing was just what they needed, won't affect their #1 seed in the NCAA, and shouldn't hurt them should they be a #2 seed in the BE tourny. And they get NOVA again in CONN, I'll go ahead and pencil in UCONN by 12 there.

true, but A)michigan state kinda sucked, and B) at least a couple other people had 20+, so morrison did not singlehandedly beat them, which was my point.
