I'll pass a cop/highway patrol by a couple mph if he's going under 9-over speed limit on the highway i.e. if he's going 70, I'd pass at about 72 until I'm out of range/sight.. I like to cruise 9-over

75mph if he's going 75 or faster. It really bugs me when they hold up traffic doing speed limit and no one is willing to pass them (traffic bugs me, not so much the cop)

any bad experiences with passing cop cars? j/w

The only ticket I ever got was when I passed an unmarked car without noticing. Twice. I drive a lot more responsibly now.

Yeah... Normally I have no problem passing a cop at 1 or 2 mph more than his velocity, as long as my overall speed is no more than 10mph over the posted limit. A couple times, I have had warning sirens and lights go off, but not get pulled over. I'm more afraid of the highway patrol than the sheriff. Hell, I've cruized behind a sheriff going just 15 over once... Sheriffs deal with so much other shit, they generally don't care about speeders...

i got the warning lights from a sheriff once going like 75 in a 55 on highway 43 comin into greenville from falkland. he was just sittin on the other side of the road, i thought i was dead

I got pulled for passing a State Trooper in Charlotte.

He "clocked" me at 66 in a 65. This fuckstick had braces, more acne on his face than you see in a PraActiv commercial, thick fucking glasses and he was about 5'9 and 120lbs.

He ranted on and on about me usurping his authority and said he could write me all kinds of violations.

So I said feel free to do whatever he needed. Handed me my license and I carried on.

That said, I'll pass em, but only if they are going <5mph over the posted limit.

Pretty much my philosophy as well.

The one time I can think of when I passed a cop faster than that (I was doing close to 80 in a 65, he was doing ~70), he got behind me and damn near tailgated me for about the next 15 miles. I kept sweating that he was going to pull me over, and I don't know what he would have done if I had gotten off at an exit, but he eventually lost interest and left.
