I saw this statistic on an article about a college athlete suing the the NCAA:
NCAA's Most Profitable Basketball Programs (In Millions) Revenue Profit Louisville $18.5 $13.1 Arizona $16.6 $12.5 North Carolina $15.0 $10.2 NC State $11.4 $9.0 Illinois $11.3 $8.1 Indiana $11.9 $8.1 Wisconsin $12.0 $8.1 Minnesota $10.4 $7.6 Ohio State $11.4 $7.4 Kentucky $12.9 $7.2 Source: U.S. Dept. of Education from 2004-05 academic year
Thats pretty interesting...I wouldn't have guessed it.

Duke probabably isn't that profitable. Very, very low attendance, Huge coaching contract, small fan base. I am suprised that Kentucky is so low and Louisville is so high.

Louisville doesn't surprise me...think of what else is in Louisville? When their program is kickin', I bet it's the main attraction.
And Arizona has some of the most up-and-coming cities in America with Tucson and Phoenix. Money has been pouring into AZ for sometime now. 2/21/2006 3:16:45 PM |

^^^exactly...you get outside the city of Louisville and i would venture to say that 90% are UK fans opposed to Louisville. UK actually plays a couple of home games each year in Louisville's arena. Well one is actually considered neutral, their annual game with IU.

Probably being from such a small state hurt's UConn. Also the area they are in doesn't help. They compete with Redsox, Yankees, Celtics, Patriots, etc. for product sales. Syaracuse not being on the list is the one that really suprises me.

^^^ It's the one and only thing I'll consistently argue over and I realize that will only make people post more about it just to try and get under my skin; that's no secret. People constantly make things up down here about the program without the first fucking clue as to what really goes on.
The entire program is judged on two screw ups who fucked up. One who came clean and one who lied to the police. Thus the two punishments were different.
I'll just ask for such a rotten and dirty program how many NCAA sanctions have been handed down?
** Frankly, it's incredibly ironic that State fans are the ones to pass judgment about a 'dirty' program considering our past... rightfully or wrongfully..

I don't hate Uconn becuase they're good...hell, I don't hate UConn. I hate Jim Calhoun and what he stands for. The same way I hated Adolph Rupp...and what he stood for (Even though he died before i was born... I'll never respect him). The same way I hate Quinn Snyder. (Quinn Snyder sucked ass, FWIW. I hate him equally with the others)
Just becuase you haven't been punished by the NCAA for doing something, doesn't mean it isn't going on. Tennessee football, for example.... dodging the NCAA for years.... somehow
I'm not intentionally trying to piss you off. We'll just agree to disagree.... I'd talk shit about UConn Calhoun with or without you here. Nothing personal
And yes, I realize that an NC State fan bitching about UConn is somewhat hypocritical... however, i'm an NC State fan... so it's okay to point the finger and laugh at another team

evidentily you've never been to louisville - i'd argue that the louisville/UK rivalry is just as strong if not stronger with students - and it's definitely stronger when considering the entire state and especially the 2 cities - lexington and louisville
freedom hall where UofL plays is also rather small (at least 1/2 if not 1/3 of the size of the RBC) so to bring in that much money is interesting though2/21/2006 6:06:29 PM |

It might have something to do with private/public (why Duke and others aren't on the list). Public institutions have very specific budget reporting rules because they have to report to the people. Private institutions can play with their fiscal numbers a little more. Just a thought, seemed odd not one of the top 10 were private. 2/22/2006 12:37:59 AM |
