if you discuss it here, more than one person can help you and you could possibly get the issue resolved more quickly.

I know... That makes perfect sense, and I agree... But this problem may have/likely happened because of a weirdo on here, so I didn't know if I should...

okay...

the full thing is ntfs.sys address f86#### DataStamp #####

I'm sorry... I wrote it down at home, but I'm at work now and didn't bring the paper with me.

Any clue what this is? Should I take it to the Geek Squad or another tech service?

I thought this was going to be about a new brand of cheese whiz.

geek squad ... save them for absolute last resort unless you got $$

find a friend

Quote :
"Important: Some malware camouflage themselves as Ntfs.sys, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder. Thus check the Ntfs.sys process on your pc whether it is pest. "

now google for ntfs.sys+virus

thank you... Yes, I'd rather not go to Geek Squad or another service and pay $80-200 if they're just going to tell me my computer cannot be repaired. I'm trying to find a friend who can help...

I'll google search like you suggested.

And good call on the whiz v. wiz thing... It should read Computer Wiz, not Computer Whiz... I've been in a bit of a fog today... bad day.

Most of what I'm finding suggests running a diagnostic test and/or reinstalling Windows XP, but I can't get my computer to boot properly... I'll keep looking... If anyone else has more suggestions/info, that input would be greatly appreciated...

Most people on here will charge $20/hr or a case of beer/hr to come over and fix it if you are close to campus. Bring it to them and they might lower the price.

My brother is going to check it out tomorrow - He's usually good with stuff like this... If he can't do it, I have a friend at work who is also a State grad/techie who will check it out... After that, if it's still not fixed/figured out, I will gladly get someone a case of beer to fix it!

Thank you again to everyone who helped!
