Loremo: The Ultra Efficient Car - 157MPG!

Quote :
"German Loremo AG will introduce their ultra Efficient Car at the Motor Show 2006 (site) in Geneva next week.

The car start-up developed a light-weight passenger car with outstanding aerodynamics. The Loremo LS is powered by a 2 cylinder Turbo Diesel engine with 20 hp and 160km/h top speed. The amazing thing is that the Loremo only needs 1.5l per 100km. This is approx. 157MPG!
The Toyota Prius hybrid has only 55MPG (combined city and highway).
With one tank (20l) you could drive 1,300km.

Loremo AG plans to sell the Loremo LS for less than 11,000 Euros (~$13,000).
One reason for the low consumption is the low weight of 450kg. The company designed the Loremo focusing on safety and efficiency and got rid of unnecessary functions. The car is small but still provides space for 4.
The design of the car is very futuristic and has for instance no conventional doors.

Loremo AG also plans to offer the Loremo GS with a bit stronger engine (50 hp, 2.7l/100km) that reaches top speeds of 220km/h (for the German Autobahn).
More details on the Loremo site. "

I dunno I drive on little ass country roads 60 miles a day. It would be nice to have something like this as its a pretty much just 65 the whole way to work. Right now I drive a Ranger that makes 25 mpg maybe, but if I could tear this bitch up and still come home to my Z28 Camaro, it might be worth it. Hmmm.

BTW it looks like my Ranger runs me about 8.8 cents/mile driven in gas alone, whereas this Lomero would run something like 1.5 cents/mile.

That's a sketchy/crappy website. Nothing but that one artists rendering. I'm wondering how you get in the damn thing with no doors.

Also there's no way a sub-1000 pound car could pass US crash tests, though I'm all for small vehicles.

There's no reason a 500lbs vehicle couldn't pass crash testing in the U.S., most crash testing in this country still involves a moving vehicle into a stationary object.

Maybe it has a big spring that you could deploy and it would let you "hop" over problems in traffic.

I don't see any doors... Or does the whole side pannel open up? I see a small gap on the side on top of the driver window. Still no door creases.
