Meyer has been the director of strength and conditioning since 2004 at NC State.
Feb. 27, 2006
Wolfpack head football coach Chuck Amato has announced that Pat Meyer, an 11-year coaching veteran in strength and conditioning, has been named offensive line coach at NC State. Meyer has been on the Wolfpack staff since Amato's first year (2000) and has been the director of strength and conditioning since 2004.
Meyer spent his first four seasons with the Wolfpack as the head strength and conditioning coach and has dramatically helped improve the strength and fitness of the squad during his tenure. The football team collectively lost 700 pounds while improving in nearly every strength and conditioning category over Meyers' first six months on the job. The team's average bench press increased 21 pounds, the average squat improved 52 pounds and the power clean numbers rose 26 pounds in that span.
Meyer came to NC State after spending three years on the Memphis coaching staff as the tight ends coach (1997) and as an assistant strength and conditioning coach (1998-99).
Meyer spent 1995 with the NFL's Arizona Cardinals and the 1996 season with the St. Louis Stampede in the Arena League as a player.
A four-year starter on the offensive line for Colorado State from 1991-94, Meyer was the captain of the 1994 squad that won the WAC Championship. He was a three-time All-WAC and All-WAC Academic selection for the Rams.
Meyer, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, is married to the former Erin Chuey and the couple has a three-year old daughter Christina. " |
Good to see we promoted from within.

Atleast he is used to Amato's bullshit so he won't up and run in a year like most of our assistants 2/27/2006 5:35:58 PM |

ok
how is someone with NO o-line coaching experience whatsoever a good hire?
so now people like derek morris will still be stong as shit and will have even fewer fundamentals, if that is possible. 2/28/2006 11:58:23 AM |

I'm split on this decision, because:

is a serious concern, and yet this:

is a key to our program.2/28/2006 9:03:19 PM |

It's good for continuity on the staff, rewarding those who have stuck it through, etc., although I would have rather have seen Amato bring in a coach from outside the program since whatever's been going on with the OL as of late hasn't been working very well. Hopefully Meyer will help turn things around. 2/28/2006 9:05:29 PM |

^ i agree
this among other things i'm noticing & hearing about are starting to make me feel that Amato is finally learning to play his hand; instead of simply trying to get the best card and letting the cards play themselves 3/1/2006 12:07:31 AM |

to the clowns that commented about his no O-Line coaching experience
he started O-Line all 4 years and was the CAPTAIN of the team..not the QB as always...an O Lineman...what more do u want, gotta start somewhere on the totem pole, at least he wasnt a kicker tellin the O line what to do

my thoughts exactly . . . if you are dedicated and "do your homework" you don't need a shit ton of experience to get things done3/1/2006 7:33:56 AM |

i think the most important thing is he relates much more the players than Berry. The players have always had a good bond with the S&C coaches (see T. Stroud). This will be an upgrade from Berry. I expect improvement in the OL in '06 3/1/2006 8:42:50 AM |

the line will be better because shitty ass Dwayne Herndon and Derrick Morris are no longer here. 3/1/2006 3:55:13 PM |

Don't knock Herndon. He was a DT that moved over... it's not like he just sucked after years of practice. He was asked to fill a role, didn't bitch, and did the best he could
