Trying to find a good movie (Or possibly TV series) to do a research paper on, I have to use two "real" scholarly articles as sources... any good ideas?

yeah, was gonna say the same thing. There are hundreds of scholarly articles and essays and dozens of books about it.
I read a book of Buffy essays recently, and a lot of them also cite X-Files and Twin Peaks as other notable TV shows with lots of academic research.

Blade Runner (sci-fi noir, what does it mean to be human, etc)
Do the Right Thing (race)
Momento (narrative theory)

[Edited on February 28, 2006 at 5:13 PM. Reason : Amelie, Godfather, The Graduate (the whole glass/ water motif)]

oh yeah, you can also do anything by Hitchcock and Spike Lee (just to name two of many options) to discuss auteur theory/ criticism

[Edited on February 28, 2006 at 5:11 PM. Reason : Baz Luhrman's Red Curtain series (is it a trilogy?)]

[Edited on February 28, 2006 at 5:13 PM. Reason : Quentin Tarantino is appropriate here too]

^"sweet sweet back's badass song" is especially awesome, and as it kicked off the genre, sure to have loads of scholarly criticism...

Journal of American Culture or Journal of Popular Culture are pretty good places to start, or just do an e-journal search for 'culture' journals. Also if you search amazon for most shows there's at least one "Reading the Simpsons" etc. book.

And there's a series of books called "New Critical Idiom" that are critical theory on a bunch of different subjects, that are really good. The "Narrative" one has a good section on narrative in Film which might be a good start, and they have them on several genres like comedy/sci-fi etc, that once you narrow down to a film would be good for background. They're good about being accessible/brief/ but without being dumbed down
