Ok guys heres the deal. I dropped a large glass of water on my desktop. I cut the power as soon as this happened. I then dryed the case, sides, and the inside. I allowed it to dry for a couple of hours. There was very little water inside the case but water ran down all the connection on the back. Amazingly it started and works fine. After 5 min of use the screen gets a green tent and gets fuzzy. It will sometimes go back to normal then back to everything with a green tent to it. I have a PCI graphics card. I changed over to the default fraphics card on the computer and everythings fine. Im assuming my card is completely screwed but thought I would at least ask before it gets tossed. So do you think it can be repaired . Thanks for any help with this 3/1/2006 8:11:33 PM |

But let this be a lesson. Don't drink at the computer.
You most likely cannot fix this video card. Since it's PCI, it's not even going to be worth it.3/1/2006 9:33:13 PM |

It's probally PCI express, since it's 256MB.
Try unpluging the monitor cable, and make sure the graphics card and connectors are dryed out. There is something that does sync-on-green, can't rember it it's VGA or not. 3/2/2006 12:52:19 AM |

Does the problem always crop up after a time?
Are you sure it's absolutely dry?
When you say it gets "fuzzy" what do you mean? Like static on TV, or bad sync (lines scrolling up/down), or does it just look like things are in the wrong place?
The green tint could be cause by one of the signal lines shorting out (after DAC), depending on what kind of fuzziness, it could also just be something shorting out. I would suggest taking a blow dryer to the card, but not too long/too hot, and make sure it's good and dry. 3/2/2006 1:12:31 AM |

Could the fuzziness be overheating?
Maybe he has an active cooler that's crapped out. 3/2/2006 2:54:34 AM |

Might still be under manufacturer's warranty. 3/2/2006 5:32:25 AM |

Well thanks for the help guys. I think its that time just to get a new card. Btw it is a PCI card, so its not exactly new or anything and the fuzzyness I was talking baout are lines scrolling up and down the screen. Thanks again 3/2/2006 7:41:33 AM |

^ this is agreed.
That said, you're not a dumbass, you at least had the sense to unplug it and such which a fair number of folks dont.
make *sure* things are 100% dry before you put in that new card!! 3/2/2006 2:25:31 PM |
