you can get permanent halos from having it done.
In the dark, light sources will have a halo around them.
This is a common problem and often permanent. Though most people say they can live with it. 3/2/2006 10:52:47 AM |

if your eyes keep getting worse and worse i dont think they do it
they want your prescription to be maintained for a few years or very slowly changing, least this is ideal case anyway

you're interested enough in the surgery to seek out others opinions, but not to find out how to spell it? 3/2/2006 11:24:04 AM |

have you considered or tried night & day contacts? i love not having to put them in and take them out every day and night. occasionally i'll have to put in a few drops but other than that i just change them every month. also..if your eyes keep getting worse and worse, lasic surgery isn't recommended. ok i just saw someone already said that. 3/2/2006 11:26:56 AM |

i'm with you. my eye sight has been steady for many years though so i'm a good candidate. it will be the next big purchase i make for myself. oh to not have to rely on contacts or wear glasses when i take them out. it would be a dream come true. i've been wearing glasses or contacts since 3rd grade. 3/2/2006 11:29:31 AM |

Glasses since 3rd grade, contacts since 4th. My eyes get -.25 worse every six months to a year. I am at -5.0 now. I won't ever get lasic, because my eyes keep getting worse.
My mom had the surgery done. They surgery caused cataracts. She had surgery to fix that. Then had surgery again for the vision. She still has to wear reading glasses, and has problems judging depth. This was done at one of the most reccommended places in Charlotte. 3/2/2006 11:50:59 AM |

Nate, I had no idea you were so blind.
Yeah I wanna get lasik surgery eventually as well. I'm so sick of glasses and contacts.
My vision is like -4.5 and -6.5 I think. I also have astigmatism 3/2/2006 1:44:36 PM |

^ Yeah, if mine would ever stop getting worse I'd do it too.
-5.5 and -6.5 and that's a three year old prescription (havent had contacts for a while) 3/2/2006 1:47:52 PM |

My father had lasic surgery done. His eyes were maybe 20/400, and he couldn't wear soft contact lenses. Now, his eyes are 90% perfect. During the day, they're 20/20, but for some reason in the evenings, he wears glasses to see clearly. I think when his body relaxes, his eyes go to 20/40 or something. He only gets a very minor halo effect.
Considering what he started with and what he ended up with, he's extremely pleased with the lasic. 3/2/2006 2:14:49 PM |

i have a -6.5 and a -7.0 in contacts. they won't let me do it right now and im 22 and i have had the same prescription for several several years. they said it is too risky and my coronea could be too thick. there are what they say "cowboy" lasik doctors that would do it for the money, but my doctor doesn't want me to even think about it until a few years. then he said we will possibly see. 3/2/2006 2:59:22 PM |

I heard the Duke thing was like another fregin zero on the prices y'all have been quoting in this thread. I don't know that for sure though.
But i have heard from other people who say they had it done for ~1700, although they say that is a bargin for the top of the line places. Duke is pretty much as good as you get too. I've searched but have had no luck on the internet in finding what prices the Duke place will give you. 3/2/2006 10:12:31 PM |

Your candidacy is determined by how thick your corneas are. I had PRK surgery (do a search in the lounge, I think there is a thread back in 2003) because my corneas were too thin for LASIK. I still have 20/15 vision in both eyes, and it seems to me that I can see even better in low light. I don't have any halo effects.3/3/2006 1:38:34 AM |

i never wore glasses, but i had PRK so i could be a military pilot (although they came back and said "just kidding about that whole switching you back to pilot thing" after i did it)
it was about $3k or slightly more, it hurt like hell, and took months to fully recover, but i do see 20/15 now with no ill effects (no halos or other problems of any kind). 3/3/2006 1:53:29 AM |
