Careful looking for "Study Buddies" in Chapel Hill. 19/20 are fags and will want to finish off the hard studying with some hard action. 3/2/2006 9:56:40 PM |

I may be going to chapel hill next year... but for grad school in philosophy (still haven't heard back from grad schools).
Congrats on getting into med school though. Partyheels (aka uncstudent.com) has been down for several days (or atleast I can't accress it). But thewolfweb has several unc students on it, so its not totally unreasonable to post here. I've taken some classes over there interinstitutionally... its a nice campus. I'll still be wolfpack at heart, even if I go there... went to my first day of kindergarten w/ a wolfpack bookbag. As I said finding a few UNC students on this board isn't impossible, but adding in the qualification of a being a med student who could understand what you are studying... that would be pretty difficult.
Even if the UNC message board starts working again, you probably wont find much help there. Most of the college message boards that were based off the wolfweb hit there peak and have died out in their school specific sections. 3/2/2006 10:09:23 PM |

and I'm sure South Paw has lots of female study buddies that he actually wants to study with. Why don't you get a life and stop looking over your shoulder worried you're gonna get bum-rushed. 3/2/2006 10:20:26 PM |

^ Absolutely OUTSTANDING third post.
I'm happily engaged (to a female, btw) and if you can't appreciate a Wolfpack fan's true hatred for UNC, then you wouldn't understand anyway.
I'm happy the guy's going to med school, and I was being sarcastic in that remark....I guess...
BTW, I have an excellent life.

Dude, keep comments like this out of Study Hall ... you've yet to contribute anything USEFUL to help this person out.
who, for housing, are you looking to rent, buy, or what when you first get here? I've got a friend who's a grad student at Duke who bought a house for ~$100k off of Guess Rd. in Durham. Rent is ~$660/month as far as I remember. Also try looking up UNC's housing/off-campus housing website to find some apartment guides for the area.
As far as a study buddy, you'll most likely find them QUICKLY once you get into the program.

This, my friend, was useful.
And to think he's going to entering MED SCHOOL with a very limited number of other students who are very focused and determined to master their field of study, I highly doubt he'll have problems teaming up w/ one or more of those classmates to study.
My advice: wait 'til classes start. Make friends w/ your classmates. There's your "study buddies".
And move as far away from Chapel Hill's campus as possible when you graduate 3/3/2006 10:20:16 AM |

Hahaha, I remember looking forward to starting the first year. Seems like a looooong time ago now...
But yeah, you'll end up spending most of your time with your classmates, most likely. First and second year are on a whole different level from anything else you've studied. I'm reviewing all of this stuff right now to get ready for Step I at the end of this month, and looking back, the amount of information is pretty ridiculous.
Congratulations on getting in. There are a few of us med students on Tdub if you ever have questions. 3/3/2006 10:24:35 AM |

hahaha, this happened to one of my coworkers, he was going to study with this guy, and the other guy was gonna give him some help. Their ideas of help were a little different.3/3/2006 11:42:39 AM |

nope, no classes with med and dental students together. so sorry. i think we have a few of the same profs, but you don't have to learn the same things so we don't have class together.
there are lots of places to live, and probably the people you will become closest to (either that or hate the most) are your anatomy dissecting group. however, there have been lots of changes to the first year curriculum since i went through it so i don't know exactly how things are with buddies anymore.
get ready for lots and lots and lots and lots of work in the next few years... but congrats on getting in. ~skip~ 3/3/2006 3:35:46 PM |

people typically form study groups once they get here...
i was told that EVERYONE studies in groups once they got to med school... not true from my experience... the first year stuff, at least, is mostly basic science. You are gonna be on a block schedule:
block 1: biochem/cell bio block 2: anatomy/embryology block 3: physiology/histology/neurosci block 4: immunology/pathology
its pass/fail first year and it's really not as bad as people say it is. I'm sure you'll figure out your study style once you start.
Housing: You can look at the med school forum, lots of people post on there when the time comes closer to summer. There are also lots of apt complexes that are on the busline. Many students buy a condo or something during their 4 yr stay here, you may want to look into that if you have the resource.
Let me know if you wanna know any more info

also, about dental students...
we don't have any classes with the dental students... however, some of them might join you for the anatomy dissection portion of the class if they are going into oral surgery or something... i know its some special dental school program... you'll know who they are when u get to the head/neck portion of the body and they know EVERYTHING there is to know about the head/neck 3/6/2006 12:40:45 AM |

Actually, an MD/DO can enter an Maxillo/Oral surgery residency if they take 2 years worth of dental school after they get their degree.
That being said, I don't know why the hell they would with the available ENT option. 3/8/2006 11:44:48 PM |
