Anyone know what biology classes are required for med school. Last I looked it simply said 8 hours of bio. I took Zo160 and MB351. Will that be enough? 3/2/2006 9:58:25 PM |

They mean general biology (I think that's Bio 181/183 here, could be wrong).
Some schools might accept more advanced classes like micro for the requirement, but that's going to vary from school to school. 3/2/2006 9:59:45 PM |

FYI, ZO 160 can transfer as BIO 183 credit 3/3/2006 12:59:41 AM |

Yeah, ZO150/160 can work as well.
They'll also take AP bio credit if you take advanced classes in college (that's how my situation went). 3/3/2006 10:06:57 AM |

You don't need all that. Only a few schools require biochem; I don't think any of them require physiology or micro.
You're going to learn all of that in first year anyway; people who had college classes in those areas really aren't at any advantage, because they didn't learn the material at the same level of depth or with the same emphasis on clinical correlations. 3/3/2006 11:30:50 AM |

just because it's not required doesn't mean that it won't help you on the mcat... the more classes you can take, the better you'll do. 3/3/2006 1:58:46 PM |

I did very well on the MCAT. I never took micro, hadn't had biochem yet, hadn't even had organic 2 at that point.
Everything you need for the MCAT comes from the general requirements (bio, chem, organic, physics). The only other class that I would recommend might be physiology, but it is by no means needed. 3/3/2006 2:01:57 PM |

it'll def look better if you take more advanced classes when the board looks at your profile...they would rather pick a person who took more bio classes than a person who takes non-related science classes 3/8/2006 1:11:25 PM |
