1000 over is a relative term.
I've gone no more than about 9000 miles and no less than 7000 mile in cars with no less than 160000 miles

I dunno...I stopped in to see Rex @ Happy Jap's one day a short while back. He had a Suzuki Vitara in the shop with no oil pressure. Sounded horrible, but ran. Had over 90k on it, and THE OIL HAD NEVER BEEN CHANGED...EVER. He had taken the lower pan section off (you have to either drop the axle or lift the motor to pull the whole pan) and he said it looked nightmarish. He had cleaned the pickup screen the best he could and put it back together. Still no oil pressure.

the sad thing is, you could be buying a nice looking used car that's been run like some of the ones mentioned in this thread.

my camry is at about 6k since it's last changed, still running strong. I probably need to change it next week though.

longest i've ever gone was at the last interval on my S2000. I let it go to 6500 miles (but the factory specified interval is 7000, AND I was running Mobil 1).

first thing i do when i am looking at a car for someone is pull out the dipstick and look at it for buildup, and take off the oil cap and look inside the valve cover in case someone cleaned the stick. many a car hasnt even been started before i walked away from it.

shut the fuck up. last place that you should be concerned about buildup is the damn dipstick

and 70 is cheap bitch. step up.

I got mine changed today at Meineke and I got my car inspected. They tried to charge me $8 for a burned out blub. Is this the average fee?

my plan is oil (amsoil euro) ever 10k and filters every 3,3k. i'll test at 5k and 10k to keep an eye on it.

ppl change their synthetic oil way too often

I redline my engine very often, and changing the oil is therapeutic for me.

I HAVE to do it every 3000 for my warranty anyways.

that reminds me of this mustang that was in front of me on the highway one time.

after about ten minutes there was a nice oily film on my windshield from his exhaust.

I didn't think about changing the oil in the Beretta until ~12k miles had passed...it's been nice to me since hahaha.

i change my oil every 3000-3500 miles. I am meticulous about it on the jeep since it burns oil and i always check to make sure there is a good amount every 1000 miles or so. plus i like changing my own oil in the parking area while enjoying a beer.

Overheating, excessive wear on parts that need lubrication, reduced gas mileage, sluggish throttle response.

I'm sure there are more.

^^^ try complete engine failure, once the oil drain holes plug up, whats left of the sludge stays in the valve cover, and your pump runs dry

every 3 mos/3k is a good plan for people who don't look at their dipsticks.

i used to do that, but now i know better. 5k is the norm on good non-synthetic.
