Sorry to bother yall with another tech support question, but you know you like showing off your knowledge

Anyhow, I recently got a ibm thinkpad and I just tried playing a burned data dvd in it and it doesnt recognize that its there. I tried it on my other comp and it worked fine. Straight burned dvd's work fine, too.
Anyone have any suggestions?

i think the older models read -r , you can just reburn your dvd with a -r disk or get a newer drive

the problem lies with the kind of dvd you're trying to play in your dvd drive. there are several types of drives and discs, as mentioned in the thread. a "burned data dvd" of what flavor? + or - R, RW even?

So if your dvd drive plays regular dvds, it might just be a dvd-rom and not a dvd+/-R/RW drive.

DVD-R's that I burn in my DVD+/-R/RW drive will not playin my older, DVD-ROM drive.

Start>control panel>performance and maintenance>system>hardware tab>device manager button>dvd/CD-ROM drives/dvd drive/right click "properties" to read the drive listed formats compatible

Some older laptops (like mine) have a DVD drive, but it will only play DVD movies. It will not read data DVDs.

like I said, it's trying to read a +r ...and not reading that a disk is even there.

I went to properties, and it just has something about cd volume and digital cd... doesnt say anything about dvd, altho it does play dvd's and dvd-r's .

Well burn your shit onto a DVD-R and you'll be fine.
