I also ran across this http://www.alleycode.com/

What do you all think?

crimson editor is cool if you are using it for code.

Right now I am evaluating Alleycode, then next I will evalute Crimson. Alleycode is pretty damn slick. A few of you all should try it out so we can share ideas about this softwa

I still use EditPad lite. Useless for coding though.

I use notepad2. The speed and simplicity of notepad.exe with some added extras including syntax highlighting. Plus you can download the source and customize it. http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

I've used textpad and found it to be pretty useful.

You can download syntax files for other languages than the standard include, i think i have a VBScript one stored away myself (if you go that way and need it)

slickedit is a powerful text editor for powerful programmers

i use it everyday and i love it.

it's all command driven and has a command line within SE.

you can emulate pratically all your old favorite text editors (keyboard shortcuts and bindings with VI, Visual Studio, CUA, SlickEdit standard, Brief, CodeWright, GNU Emacs, CodeWarrior and on and on).

You can code or record your own macros.

Create your own aliases.

there are too many features to list. Download the trial and see for yourself.
Version 11 will be coming out at the beginning of April and will be the best SE release yet!
I have beta tested it!

i just don't understand why some idiots choose to use notpad when there are so many programs out here to use that makes coding easier.

what.. like 30-60 seconds longer? hopfully you will not have 'start-up rage' and break your monitor with your keyboard.

I have been tinkering with Alleycode for the past few days. Its pretty slick, and I like it. I make webpages, and such as a pastime, so I don't really need anything that cost, or that is a really powerful tool to facilitate coding.

I use Notepad2 for general things, its way better than plain old notepad

Then for anything Java related, Eclipse, and its free

If I could get the boss to pay for it, I'd use UltraEdit, and I fucking despise SlickEdit
