But T Greg, you *always* have a choice! That's the beauty of democracy and freedom!

^ HAHAHAH HOLY SHIT YOU'RE MY NEW BEST FRIEND

Quote :
"On its world, the people are people. The leaders are lizards. The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."

"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."

"I did," said Ford. "It is."

"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't people get rid of the lizards?"

"It honestly doesn't occur to them," said Ford. "They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates to the government they want."

"You mean they actually vote for the lizards?"

"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."

"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"

"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard," said Ford, "the wrong lizard might get in. Got any gin?"

"What?"

"I said," said Ford, with an increasing air of urgency creeping into his voice, "have you got any gin?"

"I'll look. Tell me about the lizards."

Ford shrugged again.

"Some people say that the lizards are the best thing that ever happened to them," he said. "They're completely wrong of course, completely and utterly wrong, but someone's got to say it.""

I realize this was [sarcasm], but 'twas a valid point. So strike "choice" and replace with "reasonable alternative"

so, remind me again why its a bad thing to have police simply enforce the laws that we have on the books. I'm trying really hard to figure this out..

^Did you read the article? One of the arguments made was that, in order to capture 11 million people, we would have to live in a police state, and we don't want that.

no we don't. there's no need to go on a fucking roundup, idiot. I love the strawman presented though. No, all that has to happen is that when whoever is dealing with someone and they find out he is an illegal immigrant, you ship the dude back to where he came from. Its more or the less the same thing we do with people with outstanding warrants. PoPo pulls a dude over, finds out he has outstanding warrants, arrests him on the spot.

I don't know that the only way to get 11 million people out of the country is by police state, but it would probably be the only semi-fast way.

I don't have a problem with people coming to this country, but they should register and pay taxes and what not. It's obviously a real problem to have 11 million people that don't have us id's, don't have SS numbers, and basically can't be easily identified. I think when illegals are caught, they should be given the chance to register, get green cards, whatever or else be shipped out. We are a country that takes in people, but you still have to play by our rules when you get here.

^ there you go. I'm not a fan of that idea, but its an alternative to this false dilemma of "OMFG WE HAVE TO SHIP ALL 11 MILLION OUT AS SOON AS THE LAW IS PASSED!!! OMFG POLICE STATE!!!!" ship em out as you find em...

^^^Hey, don't call me an idiot. I asked if you read the article and then presented an idea in the article to you. I've expressed no opinion on this matter at all.

Furthermore, if you asked TGD, I imagine he would tell you those laws shouldn't even be on the books in the first place and that we need open borders. Did you consider that before you asked your silly question (quoted above)?

you also presented a nutjob idea from the article, so I called you an idiot appropriately.

actualy, yeah, i did consider it, but I'm glad that you let TGD think for you. I'm sure it makes it a whole lot easier for you, doesn't it? Even if TGD doesn't think we should have those laws on the books, they are still on the books and they should be enforced. Otherwise, take em off the books. Don't just ignore them because you don't like em. And please don't drag in some crazy ass law from 1915 saying that cars can't drive on the streets in NC, because there is clearly a difference between that law and current immigration laws...

The current immigration laws are wrong to the point of being reprehensible to common morality and the American ideal, and, as a result, all people have a duty to resist them through whatever means available and necessary.

I'll get thrown in Central before I'll give up an "illegal" immigrant, and you can take that to the fucking bank.

As a result, I will applaud any politician who does anything to resist the current slate of draconian laws directed at nothing so much as the arbitrary and abhorrent restriction of freedom and opportunity to the masses.

Yeah, I don't do this. I was posting in a thread regarding Economics once where he said something I liked, and I was all "Yeah, what he said!!!" And then he started saying some other shit that I didn't understand and that I suspect is totally contrary to my beliefs about society.

And, PostPadder, Big Business would never allow the laws against immigration to be enforced effectively. That cheap labor is important to our economy. So don't bitch at me. Bitch at fucking Adam Smif.

How about some crazy ass law from the 1960s requiring "coloreds" to use separate bathrooms, lunch counters, water fountains, etc?

You sound like an editorial columnist for Technician...

First of all, she is ending sentences with a preposition.

Second of all, no one wants to stop LEGAL immigration, which is what made this country great.

Dude, what are you talking about? WHO AM I TRYING TO BEAT? WHAT IS MY STANCE ON IMMIGRATION? CAN YOU TELL FROM THIS THREAD? You asked a retarded ass question ("so, remind me again why its a bad thing to have police simply enforce the laws that we have on the books."), and I called you on it. Then you called me an idiot, told me I was letting TGD think for me, and now you're accusing me of trying to change the subject???

NOW FUCK OFF, TROLL...

And, by the way, I understand PostPadder may also be NCSUStinger, in case anyone cares.
