allison v1710 complete engine with a vimalert marine conversion. this to me was a real find, an allison v1710 aircraft engine that was used as a powerplant for a gentlemens racer.these conversions by the vimalert company spared no expense tooling up for production of the ww11 allison engine, prop drive was removed and a cast alloy gear back installed that married up to a transmission, the same as packard used for the 4m2500 v12 pt boat. the exhaust headers are cast alloy, water cooled just like modern day. this particular engine is BARN FRESH, meaning it came out of a pole barn 3 years ago , how long it was there i have no idea. it is complete from the accesory housing, including supercharger and massive bendix stromberg carb, as original aircraft intake.the distibutor wiring looms in place and frame runner rails that support the complete engine and trans.a little history,,vimalert worked in conjunction with the famous boat builder GAR WOOD,the beautiful mahogany classics of days gone bye. after the ww1 surplus of liberty engines ran dry, ww11 had a surplus of allisons,,,straight out of the crate, these engines at 2500 rpm produced over 1200 hp. talk about power to weight,,the allison weighs in at about 1800lbs in marine trim.i run an allison in my boat and this was going to be its back up.but i have the chance at an unlimited and need the cabbage! if a marine application is not your thing, well take off the exhaust, trans and rails and you are back to a basic allison, supercharger and all,, i know these are still run in tractor pulling, or what everyou need big power for,, if nothing else, all the pieces are there, except for a 24 volt starter.now for reality,,IT IS BARN FRESH, IT WOULD NEED TO BE TORN DOWN TO THE CRANK AND BUILT BACK UP< I CANT IMAGINE THIS ENGINE IN A BOAT EVER SAW MUCH USE, THEY NEVER DO.that having been said, what you see is what you get, and that is a 60 plus year old engine,a piece of history,,or the future. the photos are shown without all of the accesorys, blower carb and so on,,it was sod to a fella in europe and was crated for overseas, but the deal fell thru. it sits in its shipping crate and i will not tear it apart for viewing, it cost too much and is ready to be shipped again. THE PHOTOS OF THE ALLISON WITH BLACK VALVE COVERS IS FOR REFERENCE ONLY,IT IS NOT PART OF THIS AUCTION, IMPLIED OR OTHERWISE, IT POWERS MY BOAT, JUST WANTED YOU TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE.

Yeah, the V1710 is a beast, BUT...

it ain't shit without forced induction.

I'd rather have a Merlin.

you know whats kind of hilarious

is that you throw in any kind of waves more than 1' and my boat will beat that thing.

"fast" is also a very relative term. My boat is the unofficial 3rd fastest production sailboat you can buy. Believe me, if you were out there on it, theres no way you wouldn't think its fast. Its hard to explain, but your perception of velocity is fundamentally altered when there is no loud-ass-engine in your ear.

True enough. I really dig running close-hauled on my Compaq 23 II. 5 or 6 knots (hull speed) feels like you're really cooking, especially when you dip a gunwale.

It's a totally different perspective. I can only imagine a cat is a whole order of magnitude different; I don't know, 'cause I've never sailed one.

speaking of that, i have a hobie 21 sport that needs some serious fiberglass work, or a new hull, caught a submerged rock with a dagger board and was on its side in seconds, had to drag it back to shore by the one floating hull and step the mast sideways to get it back up on the trailer, not a good day

damn you people can mess anything up
started out about a 24 liter twin supercharged v12
and now its got a bunch of people talking about wind power.... wtf
yes.. i know sailing seems extremely fast i know this i've done it....
but thats not anywhere near what this thread is about

this is about the fastest unlimited hydro setup yet.

the only wind power that deserves to be mentioned in here is the slower turbine powered model in the background.

these boats were designed for chop... you think a boat with an engine that weighs more than your car doesn't have a wake? let alone when a few are going in circles?

and since there is now wind shield on a sail boat... i often find its LOUDER than having a motor... at least if you're going anywhere.
