Word's gotten around that March 31 will mark the last day of American production of Winchester rifles. The price has more than doubled on the showroom floors in the past two months and I've invested in several of them so far for about half of what they're going for presently (except for the high-grade - that's a recent purchase). I'm thinking about holding onto them to see when the panic levels out but I really don't know how much longer the prices will rise.
Does anyone know any more information about this? I've had some trouble finding any speculation articles through Google news.
1886 Winchester High Grade 45-70 cal. 94 Trails End .357 cal. (2 of them) 94 Trails End .45 long Colt cal.

Yes, the American Winchester plant will be closing. Some Winchester rifles will still be built overseas, as the company is owned by FN, but no more here. 3/13/2006 9:05:45 AM |

That's sad...my great-great-grandfather was a master craftsman for Winchester in the late 1800's. We have a medal somewhere that he was given for years of service when he retired. Too bad US production is ending... 3/13/2006 10:00:25 AM |

^^^ I'm a Hen & Rooster distributor and work gunshows.
^^ I got that part through the news articles I've been able to find, but what I'm really interested in is what the prices are going to do in the next six months or so.

No idea. I don't know all that much about it. Try googling your rifle and find any price sheets, personal or professional. 3/13/2006 11:42:47 AM |

It'd be nice to know what my old Model 190 is worth. It was bought in the 60's but looks like brand new.

This news came out a few months ago.
Personally I'm not going to go out and buy up Winchesters...it's not like Winchester actually makes their own guns anyway. Winchester has been just a name for several years and my guess is someone else will buy the name and keep making guns (rumor is already out that the FN Herstal group may buy). The current Winchester ammunition is produced by Olin and Winchester guns have been made by the US Repeating Arms Co. for a long time. 3/13/2006 4:55:14 PM |
