Has anyone done this? Well, I'm sure someone has... but did you move yourself using a U-haul or something? Has anyone hired a mover? How much does it usually cost? 3/19/2006 7:00:18 PM |

depends how much shit you have I guess. I had a friend who moved to San Jose for 2 years. He lived pretty lightly and was able to just pack up his 4-runner. But then i had another friend who was married and had a lot of stuff and moved to Texas, and her company paid for a moving truck to come pack all her stuff and move it. Didn't ahve to worry about packing or driving or anything - she said that was the best way to move ever, and wouldn't consider doing it herself ever again. 3/19/2006 7:21:04 PM |

hmmm, I moved from Raleigh to IL with a big Uhaul (17'). It cost about $1200 but i got all my stuff in there. Generally, a mover will run you about $2k. And some will pack it for ya, others require you to have everything packed and labeled before they get there. If you're not gonna have anyone to help you unload the Uhaul when you get there, go the movers route. If i had to do it again, I think I'd spend the extra cash. 3/19/2006 7:28:12 PM |

i moved from nc to california by just packing up whatever would fit in my little car and then shipping the rest fedex (mostly clothes)
i didn't move any furniture though (left behind crappy college furniture, replaced it with crappy grad school stuff once i got here), so that made things easier 3/19/2006 7:57:20 PM |

a friend of mine moved to NYC, and we rented a big 15 passenger van from a local dealership (cheaper than a u-haul.) Four of us squeezed in with her stuff and a cat, and we drove there, dropped her off, and drove back a couple of days later. Going away party, sendoff, and moving help all in one! It was an unusual solution, but it worked out great and much cheaper than a 1-way rental. 3/20/2006 2:32:51 AM |

work for a company that pays moving expenses. for an apt you might not need movers, but movers are REALLY nice 3/20/2006 2:43:37 AM |

when my company moved me from nc to la, the final bill was approx. $4500 for my 1bed/1bath/loft apt. they came in, wrapped, and boxed everything in the morning. then loaded the truck in the evening. i scheduled a delivery date and when they delivered, they unloaded the truck and put everything in the appropriate rooms (didn't unbox tho) in a matter of 3 hours. had full coverage insurance. nothing broken or damaged. it was a wonderful experience. just glad i didn't have to pay for it. 3/20/2006 10:58:12 AM |
