Just interested in who ppl think they will select in the draft this year. I have heard stories from TE's like leonard pope to trading up for a RB like LenDale White.

Im on the draft a RB bandwagon. You?

Considering the deal they gave Foster, I'm not sure they'd want a RB that high.

Foster cant get the 1-2-3 yds per carry busting through the line like Davis did when we went to the SB. He will get injured again. He plays best coming in after such a back and running cutbacks or to the outside after the D has set in on us running the middle.

i've seen some mock drafts where he slips all the way to the pick the cats have right now, #27 or thereabouts

which mock drafts are those? He goes as early as #14-18 on all the ones I have seen. Maybe Laurence Maroney is an option too, but he seems to be #18-22 stock....

Well maybe if they draft a youngin and keep him they can avoid that...
I agree that we need a longterm RB because our offense (and our rhythym of play) emanates from the running game...

I'd love to see lendale white at Carolina, but I doubt he'll ever slip that far in the draft.

I would like to see us trade up to the late teens if we can get White. If not then a TE, would love to see a recieving tight end open up the passing game a little more.

the Panthers will likely select a TE or RB it is said and the TE from UCLA Mercedes Lewis if he is still there or the TE from USC Dominique Byrd, and as far as RB go Laurence Maroney should still be available and the Panthers will probably go with him

i would be SHOCKED if they pick up an offensive player in the first round...its just not their style...last few years it was:

2005: Thomas Davis (LB/DB)
2004: Chris Gamble (DB)
2003: Jordan Gross (OT)
2002: Julius Peppers (DE)
2001: Dan Morgan (LB)

so the last 5 years we've gotten 1 offensive player with our 1st round pick and he is a lineman...i think the last offensive player we got in the first round besides gross was carruth hahah

but it looks like we are pretty solid at defensive tackle due to free agency signings and the hopeful return of kris jenkins...the money they gave to foster mixed with a healthy eric shelton and the regular nick goings and jamal robertson 3rd and 4th string might keep us ok at running back unless there is just some kind of beastly stud on the board when we pick...i would like to see us get a nice receiving tight end but i think the top few like vernon davis and leonard pope will be gone...i'd love to get pope though...6'8"....damn...another WR to help pressure colbert and carter to step up and improve would be alright

but here's my secret knowledge nugget for you...MANNY LAWSON TO PLAY OUTSIDE LINEBACKER...i really think this is a possibility...defensive minded team, just lost a great OLB in witherspoon, manny looks like the type of player who would fit nicely in the panthers' defense...he can blitz from the LB position and he is fast enough to run RBs to the sidelines...and maybe he'd get in on special teams too...you heard it here first...Manny Lawson to the Panthers

Lendale White, Deangelo Williams, and Lawrence Marooney. 1 of those 3 will be available when the Panthers draft.

no way in hell Deangelo is available, probably not Lendale either...we don't pick until the 29th pick

I think Joseph Addai would be a good fit though

I have to agree with who it was that said a receiving TE will badly fill a need...but the cream of the crop prob will be gone when we pick.

Def don't think we will draft a RB, unless L. White is available - so unlikely

A reciever will be nice, but I think we can still get a quality receiver through FA to compliment S.Smith and make the younger ones step up.

Lawson if he is available, oh man what a def. pick up...I think we will also go Defense first round also. But I am hoping a TE drops or beastly RB is still available...

we need WR's BAD all we got is steve smith and he is going to get tired of carring the load all the time. and damnit i hate to say it, but we need to start looking at some QB's cause Jake just ain't cutting it anymore. he throws too many picks.

Delhomme is fine as long as he has some options. It's when Smith is the ONLY thing on the offense and gets covered up that causes Jake to try to become Brett Favre and force the ball into ridiculous places.

So either get a running game established or add a solid WR/TE and Jake won't be an issue.

A TE would fit our run first offense especially one like Dominique Byrd from USC, Mercedes Lewis is a better recieving TE but Byrd is a better blocker and can still catch well and he would be a good pick up if Lewis is not available at that point and that will fill a hole in our offense and give Delhomme another great recieving option that can block for Foster. A TE would be a great pick.

A few things to add (also glad to see this thread still alive as I think this could be a big draft for us):

-No way DeAngelo or Lwhite is undrafted by #27. We would have to trade up (unlikely).
-Marcedes Lewis stock fell alot from low wonderlic score, he could be an option.
-We need a RB more than any defensive position, foster cannot be our #1, he is injury prone.
-We arent outtof the game with K-Rob for a 2-WR yet are we? we need a kickreturner too.
-Manny as OLB would be hot and he will be available around our pick as well. BUT! ........
-Eric shelton was a complete distaster last year, we are probably letting him go soon so who does that leave us with? Robertson? ha! Smart is gone. Goings will never be a starter unless injury dictates it to be so ( a la postseason '05/'06) (hes a solid 3guy)

We need a RB BAD![b]

why do you say Shelton was a complete disaster last year? He got injured in the preseason and never played because Stephen Davis looked good early after his surgery...and yeah Foster has had a few injuries but he is still solid...I think drafting an RB is dependent on what the coaching staff thinks about Shelton...cause if Shelton somehow strikes the Panthers as a younger Stephen Davis, I'm pretty sure they would be comfortable with a similarity to the Davis/Foster backfield that we rode all the way to the Superbowl...and Goings and Robertson arent starters, although Goings had a great stretch of a half dozen games a year and a half ago...but Goings is a solid 3rd back and Robertson is the future of our kick return game...I just know we addressed our defensive line issues, are pretty solid with our 2ndary and need to fill in Will Witherspoon's spot with a great player

local panthers sites and other scouting orgs express the (rumor) of shelton being a dissappointment. He isnt "adapting to the game" and "hitting holes" as they had hoped. That doesent mean he wont be a good player years down the road, but his mental game is lacking right now. Thats why he didnt make the team (the injury didnt help him either).

We need effective #1 RB this year. I will hope that shelton picks it up in years to come with you...

Manny in the 1st round would make me smile though....

TE and RB...we can pick up a decent receiver via FA or trade...and no way we load up on WR's that is crazy...we run first and don't shoot it out like a west coast offense. We just need to get a solid TE that can run block and catch 5-20 yards across the middle or in the flats...Lets just keep triple teams off Smith...

But yeah, a RB is well needed also...Foster is solid, but in no means a full season starter (wont make it). And I don't think we are ready to rely on Goings or Shelton...

Ditto, my man. But who who who is gonna be our guy? I KNOW allottof bigname RBs would love to come here because we are so well known for being a run oriented team and our recent success has to be alluring.

Do we risk drafting one and get lucky like the Bucs did with Caddylac?
It will be tough to find a quality RB through FA because most have signed? Who is left?

Ricky Davis? j/k

Running Back, please, for the love of god, DeShaun is too damn fragile. It's not his fault. He can be explosive and I think if he is healthy he is pro bowl caliber, but we need insurance, White, Williams, Marooney. Period.

Foster is very un-proven, especially to be a feature back on a run-first team. He also in the past has shown tendencies to develop fumbilitis, but hopefully that was just that superbowl year and not a consistent thing. And yeah, he's been injured almost every year for at least a couple of games, so I don't expect this year to be any different.

Plus to get FULL effectiveness out of a back like Foster, you need a change of pace back to go with him. He needs to come in after someone has pounded the line a little bit and then he could really explode off the corner.

i agree we need a change of pace to go with him, and if the panthers dont think shelton is that stephen davis-type change of pace, they will draft or go after one in FA...but i know we've seen foster make amazing plays as well, ie 70 yard runs, dragging a safety 25 yards, dragging 6 eagles 10 yards...thats the foster we have to hang on to, cause you know if we let him go he will run for 200 on us

a smart choice is a rb or LB

you can get a decent TE in the 2nd-3rd rd, there are a lot of them this year
