I dont think that Prof Friend is teaching it in the fall...

but I had him last semester for HI 251 and it was a good class. I've always thought E.A. History was interesting, and this guy was a great teacher. He was funny and presented the material well. He really knew his stuff (3 published books) and tried to make it relevant. He would go on random tangents with stories, which often would spice up the material.

There was no attendance policy and the grade was based on 3 tests and a final, with a paper due for each test. The test was only on the lectures (not the book, although we used the book for class discussion). I got a ~B in that class because of the attendance policy (I missed probably 1/3 of the days) but would def. recommend the class if you get a good teacher. Hope that helped.

I took it last semester with Johnson. She lectured and you took notes. That's how all her classes went. But she gave you a list of key words for each chapter. Her tests were pretty easy. The hardest part of her tests were the essay questions because she graded those extremely hard. We had to read 2 books, one about Martin Van Buren and one about Abigail Adams. We had to write book reviews for each of the books and she graded those pretty hard.

Should take HI 215 instead with Butler. History of latin america until 1812 (maybe?), anyways . . its basically the same as the early american history, just focuses on the latin american part. But you have probably taken some form of early american history 3 or 4 times. Why not try something a little different.

Butler is cool too. Just listen in class and take notes and the tests are real easy. 2 tests, a paper, and the final.
