I am thinkin of taking a couple summer classes up here. I was wondering if anyone had taken any before and knew which ones were good to take during the summer. I have heard that they are a bit easier, but i have no clue. 3/21/2006 1:07:54 PM |

HI 207 (ancient history) with parker was great. I mostly did philosophy and english classes over the summer and always enjoyed them. I took one geography class over the summer... it was so good. It was taught by someone who also teaches middle school... we had to do chalk pictures on the bricks like her middle schoolers did. It was easy but not intellectually stimulating at all, as opposed to philosophy classes which can be really interesting when you are able to focus on them as is the case in summer sessions.
Summer sessions are also good times to get any foreign language requirements out of the way. 3/21/2006 1:15:06 PM |

^really? i would think a foreign language would be harder in the summer, because it's at a faster pace. can you elaborate on why it's easier? and what language you took, if you did this?
^^i took COM112, interpersonal communication, and it was really fun and easy. Keri Mercer was the best teacher ever. showed a lot of videos, lots of group work and discussions. let out early a few times. 3/21/2006 3:19:32 PM |

i have never encountered a class thats harder over the summer than over the main semester.
there is just no way to fit in as much homework, as many projects, and all that.
And it is so much easier to remember for the final exam what you studied at the begining of class 4 or 5 weeks ago, than it is in a regular class where you are trying to remember things from half an academic year ago. 3/21/2006 4:24:32 PM |

also summer classes, atleast in my experience, have tended to have smaller classes.
more social, smaller classes, with more individual attention can be great things when learning a language. when you come to know everyone in the class and feel comfortable speaking with them in the language it makes it easier. 3/21/2006 5:00:44 PM |
