Anyone have a clip of last nite's performance from Him?

I heard he rocked "Walk the Line" and put the alternative twist on it.

am I the only one that just isn't feeling this guy? must EVERYTHING he sings sound like an outtake from the latest Fuel album? Show me some range.

i LOVE him

he's the only one that even tries to sing the songs in his own way

pretty much everyone else sounds like karaoke night at playmakers...even though some of them are very good singers

i like him ... just too much vibrato.

Quote :
"vibrato
Main Entry: vi·bra·to
Pronunciation: vi-'brä-(")tO, vI-
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -tos
Etymology: Italian, from past participle of vibrare to vibrate, from Latin
: a slightly tremulous effect imparted to vocal or instrumental tone for added warmth and expressiveness by slight and rapid variations in pitch
"

I like the guy, but he gets too much credit for putting alternative twists on old songs. I had never heard that rendition of "Walk the Line", but I could tell right away that it was a Live remake.
He did the same thing a few weeks ago to an RHCP song.

but thats the point...they have to sing songs by other people, at least he is being a bit more original

instead of doing a well known version of an old song, he took a different approach that suited him better

? so you're saying there is already a version of "walk the line" that sounds like that?

^they say every single performance has to be better than the original or with a new twist...he's taking their advice to the T; i hope he wins honestly

he has decent range, he just sticks to what is undoubtedly his "style"

simon seems to respect it

definitely don't like this guy. i think it's because he seems to take himself too seriously, and has a certain narcissistic quality that makes me want to vomit. also the chain hanging off the pants last night was pretty gay, even if someone in the dressing room told him to do it.

i guess that qualifies me as a hater, but whatever

106.5 the END is already playing the clip by request. I heard it yesterday afternoon while in Asheville.

Can they do this?

I think you can go ahead and turn the lights out on the rest of the competition.

I think you definitely have to factor in that Catherine McFee chick and Taylor Hicks. Catherine is hot and has got some amazing vocals, and Taylor...he's just the man. I think both will be in it till the very end. Also, I think Paris is good, there's just something about her I don't like..and it's not because she's black either

I interned at a FOX affiliate last summer, and one of the photogs and a morning reporter have the "American Idol" beat
Here's what he's written about Chris lately in his blog http://www.lenslinger.com/
He has stuff in there about the other NC finalists too
Quote :
"The Chris Daughtry that approached my camera Thursday night was positively electrified. That hasn’t always been the case, as off-stage, the diminutive bald rocker can sometimes look like he’s waiting on a bus. It’s that working class humility that so compliments his stratospheric vocals, even if it does vex the guy in the black V-neck from time to time. When I first met Chris that day outside the Green Bean, I was summarily under-whelmed. Then he cocked his head back and rattled the restaurant’s windows with his turbo-charged howl. Since then, I’ve delighted in watching him impress everyone else who hears him sing. Many others have joined me in the conversation and to them Chris has this to say:

"Everybody that’s doing that, writin’ about me, I’m readin’ it. Thank you so much and thank you for voting for me."

So far in the competition, the former automotive service writer has been able to stick to his blue collar rock and roll roots. That will soon change, as now the producers have total control of song selection. Chris is confident he can get through this week’s Stevie Wonder canon, but he admits the songs in his immediate future scare him a bit.

"If they do show tunes that might be a little weird but I’m just gonna try to keep my style infused into every song I do and do it my way and stay true to what I do. And as long as I do that hopefully people will keep voting for me and keep me around a little longer."

That shouldn’t be a problem, as Chris is a front-runner. So far he’s the only contestant whose recent performance caused the band he was covering, Fuel, to beg him to be their new lead singer.

"They called me yesterday. It’s crazy when you got a band that you’ve been listening to ever since you were like 14 and you respect them as songwriters and they inspire you as a musician and they’re calling you offering you the job as their singer..."

Shannon Smith & Chris DaughtryBut Chris ain’t leavin’. How could he? He’s on his way to becoming the next American Idol. At least that’s what you're friendly lenslinger is becoming growingly convinced of, as I cover this unassuming young bald guy with the bored-out vocal pipes. Chris might not be quite as confident as I am, but he does seem to realize the possibilities before him for perhaps the first time. Here’s hoping he won’t stumble on his path to global rock stardom, what with frayed nerves, unblinking satellites and divine intervention.

"I pray to God that I don’t hit a bad note that I don’t hit a bad note, you know, do something stupid or fall - you’re on national TV and anything can happen so I always just hope not to be one of those embarrassing moments."

Careful with the show-tunes, dude..."

Fuel called him to be their lead singer?? Damn that's pretty impressive. On a side note, I didn't even know Fuel's lead singer was out of the band..

holy crap!

I could care less for American Idol, i think the idea behind it is pathetic, especially that so many people care about it. Having said that, I have flipped by the channel and watching horrible singers thinking they are awesome is pretty damn hilarious.

Back to my original idea...

HOLY CRAP! that guy totally butchered "I walk the line" ...not in a good way. He totally screwed up what the song AND music is about, makes it sound like church music (by the way, yes im aware that Cash has done plenty of church music, but I walk the Line isn't it.)

Chris, If you say he is a good guy, i believe you, if you say he can sing, sure, ok, i believe you, but keep him away from Johnny Cash music
How is this guy a finalist? Nevermind that question, this wonderful show has given us fucking Clay Aiken and Kelly Clarkson....

my mom's computer guy at her office plays guitar in chris daughtry's band in mcleansville...he was at the office today and said their cd's have been backordered for over 2 weeks and they get over 200 emails a day about appearing at various shows and junk...

i think it's safe to say that chris daughtry is set regardless of how the contest ends...

Something about the way the dude sings rubs me the wrong way. Every performance he gives seems exactly the same, which some might call consistancy, but it comes off to me as pretty mechanical like the singing you would hear in a SUV commercial.

Do the singers arrange their own songs? or do they have people do that for them?

If this guy's arranging the way all his songs sound, whereas everyone else is just going with the traditional form, then that's something.

i'm sure Chris had a lot to do with that arrangement of walk the line

and like i said earlier, they're supposed to be different from the original, otherwise they'd have to sing it better than the songwriter and that does not happen
