So I have a 6800 256mb pci-e, sli capable card right now. I've got a free pci-e 16x slot, and I can get another 6800 for ~$100. Should I run 2 6800's (24 total 256bit pipes, 2x 300mhz cores, with 512mb ddr3 @600mhz) at a net cost of $100
OR
sell my 6800 for ~$100, buy a 7800gt at a net cost of ~$170.

as tiberius has established in another thread, most processes/programs/computing is not programmed for multithreading/parallel processing. the max operations per second and the greatest easily extensible memory bandwidth are the goals. specifically I play wow, bf2, and potentially oblivion. anyone know how these games handle sli? I doubt bf2 handles it well, and I know wow has issues with dual core processors..

see, you have to say "most" instead of "all" because the exception is graphics processing.

so basically your point is completely wasted.

i never said that sli/crossfire was the end-all be-all of parallel graphics processing.

I was addressing a more fundamental misconception that he was demonstrating.

7900's are out, perhaps look at a 7900gt, same as a 7800 but they use smaller transistor size and run cooler.
