seriously

i hate the fact that guys get away playing half of the game
--if you're gonna hit, you gotta field
--if you're gonna pitch, you gotta hit

its only fair

and

i hate the image that cycling has now because people discovered the chair lift at a ski resort still works in the summer

its all GO GO GO without any care of the terrain you ride or the safety of others

and while i know XC never was going to be popular, at least it was there, now everything is like crits and short track to keep the speed idea going

REMEMBER WHEN HENRIK WON ON A FULLY RIGID BIKE

DH = downhill in regards to the bikes

Plenty of XCers can tear up the terrain too by riding when its wet. Just visit trianglemtb and see that over there the whole "ride when its wet/don't ride" is the equivalent of the Fire Herb threads over here.

Can you please explain your beef with DHers, your soapbox, if you will.

where does the transfer from having to be a good/great hitter in highschool change to being a horrid hitter at the pro level. Do you just completely stop hitting ? All of the pitchers that are good friends of mine switched to fielding spots in college so I dont really know.

To me the DH takes a lot of the strategy out of the game. Don't get me wrong, most of the country likes the added offense but for someone who is a 'baseball lifer' like myself, I like the strategy of having a pitcher in the lineup. The use of the sac bunt, moving runners over, a different set of skills for bench players, etc, etc.

It makes baseball a game of skill and a game of brains. You can't just trot out 9 30 HR guys (like the Yankees) in the NL with no DH.

I know i sort of blanketed a lot of things and probably am in the minority but I hate the DH.

yas that's the problem ... the average fan probably doesnt have much appreciation for small ball and the intricacys of baseball. To the average guy catching a game on espn. A bomb is much more exciting than a sac bunt to move the runners over.

NyM nailed it.

The DH is not neccessary. How good would the Red Sox be if they had to take out Ortiz? or if Big Papi had to actually play in the field?

The double switch is a lost art. La Russa still does it a lot, by not many more use it.

Unless you're a Roger Clemens or Mike Hampton and can absolutely drill the ball.

i don't actually have much of a complaint

i just needed a validation for this thread

beardawg made a comment that said he didn't know what DH was

and if i did have a problem, it wouldn't be so much DH as that fucking freeride/northshore shit where its like "LETS BUILD COMPLEX BRIDGES AND JUMPS IN NATURE WHEN WE COULD JUST GO TO A FUCKING BMX PARK" or "HEY, LETS JUST OFF THE TOP OF A A PLATEAU OUT IN MESA ARIZONA"

just fucking pedal

this is why i've basically sworn off mtb and stick to road now

(plus, the lower rolling resistance makes it easier to move my fat ass from point A to point B, and less snakes)

The DH is a tradition in the AL, and really contributes to all around better play. Who cares if one guy plays half the game, this way you can play an awesome hitter who can't field and an awesome fielder who can't hit. It is not bad for baseball because you really only play your own league, except for the few interleague games. It also doesn't give the AL an advantage in the World Series because it is much easier to play with a DH than to play without one.

Oh, and who gives a shit about downhill biking? Does it really affect anyone? It is much more fun to watch than road races, which now that there is no LA it is even worse.

well technically

2 guys are playing half the game

IT TAKES AWAY PART OF THE COACH'S RESPONSIBILITIES

Yea, I remember posting a thing about Bender and you acted like I shit in your cornflakes.

I really don't get the "hate". I mean you have a point about building jumps in nature and I tend to agree with you about this, but I just can't hate on a guy that is ballsy enough to drop off a 40 ft cliff on a bike.

If all you want to do is pedal, umm, ok. But you're missing out on an entire world of fun to be had in the woods. Basically, everytime I ride through the woods, no matter how easy the section, I'm always looking to ride it faster than before and this is fun for me. Being all 'zen' about "just fucking pedaling" doesn't really cut it for me, not when the world can't be blocked out thanks to dickhead drivers.

he's not even in my top 4 or 5

and i won't even accuse him of doping
i'll just say its not hard to win a race that many times if thats the only one you're trying to win

as someone who use to ride downhill, we did not ruin the sport. Stupid little fucks with their goddamned full suspension bikes ruined the sport. I use to race using a fully rigid frame and won too.

backroads son

i'm serious

nothing is more peaceful than just going, riding like 5 miles, turning left, riding 5 more, turning left again, riding 5 more miles, turning left again, and then finding your way home

shits golden

It isn't "strategy" when the pitcher sacrifices or strikes out: they simply have no talent to hit and are doing the next best thing.

The double switch is taking out a shitty guy on the roster who's not due up for a while to put a pitcher in his place to (attempt to) avoid more sacrifice bunts and automatic strikeouts... wow, that's a thrilling "lost art".

I would be against the DH, however, if they actually cared about a pitcher's hitting skill; they don't. The double switch is just further evidence that nobody wants to see pitchers hit... not even the Coach, let alone the fans.

For the record, AL teams pinch hit too and play small ball strategy . At least they are honest with themselves about the fact that pitchers don't have the skill needed to hit. You act as if every AL team is loaded with 30 HR players and every NL team is a bunch of scrappy small ball players.

that right there is the truth

I like downhill but damn, full suspension is ridiculous. I'd rather see a guy on a rigid or hard tail downhill anyday than somebody with a dirtbike with no motor goin down a hill.

^^^Im with ya. The DH adds a little bit of pop for most ADD people out there and keeps baseball alive money-wise. I dont get excited when a pitcher steps up to the plate. Kerry Wood's HR in the playoffs was cool though, but how often does that actually happen? AL teams still beat up on NL teams even when they have to make a pitcher bat, the NL sucks. DH allows players like Big Hurt help my A's return to glory!

(If you dont think the AL teams play small ball then watch an A's game from the past few years)

Topic 2:
DownHilling is fun ppl. It isnt really big here in centra NC, but I have ridden in Nevada and out west on different terrain and had a blast. I woudlnt own a DH bike if I could around here, it is a waste.

Yes, the athleticism of XC is superior and more along the lines of traditional cycling and will always be my true favorite, but DH has its perks. You ppl who knock it: have you tried it anywhere outside of the East Coast?

FOR THE LAST TIME

I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH DH

I HAVE DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND WILL HOPEFULLY GO AGAIN THIS SUMMER
(for the record, we have always ridden up the fire roads on the bike, and then ridden down, not chairlifting)

so to answer your question
no, i have not gone anywhere but on the east coast
