Just go to court, if its your first charge for alcohol you can just take some class for 150$ and get it removed, you dont need a lawyer.

If you get a lawyer you won't have to do the class most probably. NC is REALLY cracking down hard on people who buy alcohol for underage people. It's not joke.

when i took the class most of the other people in the class got a lawyer, and still had to take the class

tell them you want to do the first offenders program, if they say no just get a continuance and come back with a lawyer

you dont want to waste your money on a lawyer

it happens all the time and im sure everyone on here who is over 21 has had friends that are 20 and bought alcohol for them, but they all hate on people who get caught.

I've heard stories of cops following people from the ABC store, then the person who is of legal age gets out of the car, leaving the liqour in the car with the minor. The minor starts to drive away and the popo nails em

^something similar happened to someone i know.

dude gets the stuff by himself, drives it to his apartment. ALE follows him and parks. he goes inside with the stuff, and awhile later his friend leaves with it and they busted him. i'm not sure of exactly how long it was before he came out, but that's crazy how persistant they were. i wonder how long they would sit there before deciding that it was a legitimate 21+ year old that wanted some damn beer.

One time in Gboro, the ALE pulled me and a bunch of girls over on the way back from the ABC store. He asked to see our licences. Luckily we were all over 21, but what kind of charge would he have on us if say one person was under 21? We were still driving back from the damn store!

you are only charged if you someone tells them you bought for them, or if they follow you and you don't take possession the whole time. Basically if you go, you need to carry it and keep it with you the whole time if someone with you is under.

[Edited on March 28, 2006 at 2:47 PM. Reason : basically if they can prove the crime]

He would have pulled you out of the car one at a time and interrogated you until one of you cracked. This is one of those situations where its best to refuse to answer questions. They will keep threatening/questioning you until someone gives in or they have had you stopped too long.

A freind of mine got pulled over in Wilmington after she left the liquor store one night and had driven someone up there to buy her liquor. The guy went in bought it or whatever and came out and they left. ALE stops pulls them over less than a mile away, gets her out of the car and made her sit in his and badgered her for a good 10-15 minutes trying to get her to admit the liquor was for her.

He started off real smooth/nice and talked all casual and basically told her that if she admitted to the liquor was for her that she would only get a ticket and it was no big deal, but if she did not cooperate then she was going to be in a "lot of trouble". She stuck to her guns. He continued on getting progressively meaner/threatening and even threatened to CALL HER MOM if she did not admit that it was hers. (what kind of bullshit is that???, i guess he thought it would work since she was a freshmen)

She never admitted to anything (even told the dickwad to call her mom and offered him the number) The ALE agent was all pisssed off but ended up letting them both go.

on two seperate occasions in greenville, I've walked out of the food lion with a case of beer and an ALE agent jumps out from behind a car and flashes me his badge and asks for my ID. I was like 22 or 23 at the time so I didn't really give a fuck, but it was still a hassle. I eventually had to be like "listen, I'm not underage. that's my real license." and he stopped examining it and walked away all dejected. his buddy was off to the side making a different group of kids pour out every beer in the case they had just bought. fucking cops.

Greenville is no fucking joke with the alcohol laws sometimes. Other times, they don't give a fuck.

I was at a party once, cop knocked on the door and came inside, and was laughing and joking with everyone (90% under 21) as they all kept drinking. He said he didn't care, he was only there about the noise, and he only came because someone had complained (apparently he'd driven by several times, but didn't care. He only stopped because a neighbor called and he had to).

yeah, the cops in greenville are usually pretty cool. I've met some dicks, but most of the time they'll just give you a warning or tell you to keep it down. But the ALE is a different story. those dudes must write about 2,000 tickets at football tailgating. just about every person I know has gotten one. they're complete dicks. but, I will say that once I turned 21, it was fun to fuck with em.

The type of people that will be ALE have probably been fucked with their entire lives. Why else would they do that job?

Pretty much any alcohol charge you can walk away from with a clean record. Your punishment lies in the financial and time costs of doing all the shit required to get it dismissed. The DA will dismiss it if you do all the shit they ask you to.

Regardless of what anyone in here says, if you can afford one get a lawyer. The DA might end up cutting you the same deal everyone else gets, but you can sign an appearance waiver and not have to show up for court 3-4 times and spending half a day (the attorney will just go). If your busy this may be in itself worth the money.

you will come out clean if you take the class and then get your record expunged (wait on the expungement to make sure theres not something else you need to get rid of)
it will cost a lot less than a lawyer, i mean are 2 saturdays really worth a few hundred dollars?

do not waste an expungement on an alcohol ticket.

no one cares about alcohol tickets

+1 you dont need to use the expungment for that (the DA will tell you otherwise, which is why lawyers are a good investment)

If you do all the other pretrial diversion crap your record will show you were charged and that it was dismissed by the DA. Wait till you get charged with something people would look down upon before using your expungement.
