"Educator accused of sex with student
Assistant teacher fired from Hunter Huss High
CLEVE R. WOOTSON JR.
cwootson@charlotteobserver.com
GASTONIA - A Hunter Huss High School assistant teacher was fired Monday after he was charged with having sex with a 17-year-old student on school grounds.
Gaston County school officials terminated the contract of Robert Marquise Williams, 28, of New Prospect Church Road in Shelby, citing moral reasons. Williams was released from the Gaston County Jail on Monday after posting $20,000 bond.
Williams, a Shelby High School football star with a brief professional career, has been an in-school-suspension assistant teacher since Aug. 18. He also was an assistant junior varsity football coach and an assistant track coach.
Police and school officials say Williams coaxed the teenage girl into having sex with him in a car on school property one day after school in December.
Williams kept teaching at Hunter Huss until Friday, when the girl's father went to police. School officials suspended Williams with pay on Friday and fired him Monday.
Police would not disclose other information, citing the age of the victim.
A person who answered a phone number for Williams that is listed in a Gaston County Schools coaches' directory declined to comment.
Bonnie Reidy, spokeswoman for the school district, said its state and national background checks came back with no prior record of a sexual offense.

Williams' Career
• 1994: Named to the Shrine Bowl all-star football game as a defensive back at Shelby High.
1997: Earned All-ACC honors after his junior season at UNC Chapel Hill.
• 1998: Fifth-round draft pick of the Kansas City Chiefs. Played in all 16 games that season.
• 1999: Played in one game for the Seattle Seahawks
• Williams also played in the Arena Football League in 2001 and 2003 for the Carolina Cobras and in 2004 for the Georgia Force.

Just adding it to the ever-growing list of former athletes from UNC that are in trouble with the law. It won't get much press in the RTP because UNC will try and keep this one quiet....

Hahah Chris Washburn....Any real State fan would have known who that was.

Prolly 50% of this site wouldn't know him or Todd Fuller. And Fuller was here only 10 years ago.

good to hear of another one of these cases from the county of Gaston. Robert Williams was pretty good if I recall, played alongside Dre Bly I believe.

I've never played basketball against you, so I don't know. Plus I haven't played since I was in college last May, so I probably would not shoot the ball well. I plan to go to my gym tonight and shoot, just to see how well I do. I'll update you on my percentages tomorrow....

Todd Fuller gave my friend and I a ride to our car after a hornets game once.

Of course, he is best friends with my friends sisters husband, so that probably had something to do with it.
