ok so i found a piece of like month old chicken in the house and threw it away.
lo and behold we leave for 15 min, the dogs raid the trashcan and one of them eats it. the entire house REAKS. is there anything we can do to make the dogs not get sick from eating forever rotten chicken? 3/28/2006 8:51:58 PM |

probably too late if he already ate it, I mean seems like the same thing if a human ate something, you just gotta deal with the crap later on.
on second thought, my dogs have eaten some pretty weird stuff and never got sick

If it is vomitting and normal diarrhea then just lay off any food for it for awhile. It should pass. If it starts getting bloody diarrhea then take it to the vet (which would probably just be an inflamed colon or whatever). 3/28/2006 11:26:41 PM |

^No, it's like a liquid charcoal the vets tube feed animals to get them to vomit. If you take them to the vet, they're just gonna get them to vomit. 3/29/2006 9:34:20 AM |

just squirt some hydrogen peroxide down the dog's throat with a medicine dropper
that's what my vet did when he had to induce vomitting 3/29/2006 9:56:14 AM |

was it boneless chicken?
because the most dangerous part about dogs eating chicken is the bones. they splinter very easily and can get lodged in the dog's throat 3/29/2006 10:11:08 AM |

wouldn't induce vomiting....
i would probably watch the dog and see if there were any side effects (ie. vomiting or diarrhea). If so, you could more than likely take food away for 24 hours and if you absolutely feel that the dog is starving offer some rice or boiled chicken. If the problem persists to bloody diarrhea or diarrhea for more than 2 and continual vomiting for 2 days seek veterinary assistants to prevent further dehydration.
If you are not sure which dog ate it , I would feed a bland diet tonight and just keep and eye on them! 3/29/2006 6:43:49 PM |

eh, your dog will be fine. mine found the innards of a chicken that had been sitting in the trashcan for a week and ate half of them, and he was fine. (AND THEN HE BURIED THE OTHER HALF IN MY DAMN LAUNDRY PILE) 3/29/2006 8:49:00 PM |
