I don't use my cell phone enough to pay for a plan. Does anyone have any opinions on the different providers? I currently have a contract with alltel that runs out in may, i believe, and I'm considering their pay as you go plan, as well as t-mobile and boost. Please help! 3/28/2006 9:03:35 PM |

I looked into this for my little brother some time ago. I remember T-Mobile was the best deal overall. 3/28/2006 9:54:22 PM |

I can't speak as an expert on the subject, but most of the companies I remember seeing had all of this funky fine print attached to a contact when you purchase the phone. I think it was Alltell that had some crap like "Oh, you gotta use the phone once every 30 days or else...".
How much are you planning on your using phone ... i.e. in minutes per month? I ask because they do sell phones that you throw in your car, leave turned off, and only turn on / use in emergecnies. $0.35 a minute or so on those. 3/29/2006 5:29:24 AM |

^ I know that trac phone (because my apartment mate has one)
Has all sorts of fine print attatched to not get the phone deactivated or loose your minutes, however it wasn't too hard to do (you have to use it once a month for at least a minute and have to add minutes every 6 months or something like that).
However, no experience otherwise. so. cant help. 3/29/2006 11:20:29 AM |

^Dont get a trac phone. Instead get a "Net10" phone that is operated BY trac phone. Instead of paying 23-25 cents a minute, your rates are always 10 cents/minute. The only catch is the phone, which is rather crappy, costs 60$ (and you get 300 minutes to start) The trac phone costs 20 and comes with no inital minutes.
Also with the net10 phone yo uahve to buy more minutes every 60 days or they disconnect your phone. I end up buying the 300 minutes/2months and it comes out to a mere 15$ every 30 days. Not a bad deal if you don't talk much. 3/29/2006 6:46:47 PM |

don't do Net10 unless you plan on using every last minute before the month is up. it's only 10cents a minute if you use every minute.
i currently use STI Mobile and i'm happy with it, but I think they may go out of business soon. if they do I'm gonna checkout Tmobile prepaid 3/30/2006 11:42:03 AM |

If you dont travel often get Kiwi PCS there is a store on hisllborough. Its only 20 bucks a month for unlimited minutes. The only drawback is that it does not word out of Raleigh-Durham (I think it works in wilmington too)
