Someone wants me to build them a dual cpu rig and I know a few of you out there have 64bit cpus in your own.
Had any problems with them?
Are there any special considerations that need to be taken when considering hardware/software compatibility?
Should i just stick a 32bit cpu in it, or are there finally enough software apps and programs available that "take advantage" of the 64bit to justify building one for a casual gamer/cyberweb surfer?

I dont want to run into the double whammy of "So you now have a computer with two 64bit processors, but hardly anything uses both of them at the same time, and even fewer take advantage of the 64's architecture"

What is the current, long-term prognosis for the practicality of going 64?

do you mean dual core cpu, or dual processors (as in 2 individual processors)?

dual core is the new hottness

i know less about dual core than i do about 64s
What i was talking about was a dual cpu machine. Ive had the same one for 5 years now and it's still pretty solid. so i'm personally impressed with their "long term viability"

I'm more concerned with the practicallity of 64bit processors though. I know they rock ass and everything when utilized to their capacity, but im just afraid of putting this thing together and having it pull a betamax/dreamcast on me. or worse, instability

all i can find on google really is stuff sponsored by AMD and sales pitches

i have a 64 . but i dont use any programs that would take advantage of it. so. get it anyway, run 32, until longhorn comes out. or vista, call it what you want. then the programs and shit for it will start coming out.

theres not even a 64 bit norton antivirus thru nc state yet...64 bit isnt that popular w/ programs yet

64bit is no betamax, its here to stay and will only grow in use. and yeah, go dual-core instead of dual proc. cheaper and easier
