Does anyone know the guidelines on who gets a ticket from these? I was in the intersection beside uiniversity towers earlier today and I the light turned red when I was 3/4 of the way through.

Any suggestions?

you should be safe. It only fires the camera if you trip the beam entering the intersection

I have a friend who's mom works in the insurance industry... apparently the official rule is that if you have already entered the intersection ( crossed the thick white lines before the light ) before the light turns red then you are not running the red light. So if the light was yellow as you entered the intersection you shouldn't be in any trouble.

the first picture shows your cars location when the light turns red, if its past the white line you wont get a ticket

Citations for “camera enforced” red light violations are civil penalties, similar to a parking ticket. No record of the violation goes to your insurance company or the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles.

actually the "cameras" in cary are actually video and the flashes are just to make sure that they get your license plate

but to get flagged for the ticket you have to drive over the white line while the light is red

Because "red light photos" has nothing to do with sex, but is associated with the "red light district" and "photos" on T-dub always means something demeaning to the female sex.

New count: 272.

Don't mind me, just drunk and bored.

BTW I've run several red lights with cams and never gotten tickets - there must be a two- or three-second grace period.

I think people just like reading about other peoples' misery, but since the person didn't actually get a ticket, there wasn't really anything to make fun of (hence no posts).

I was expecting a thread where someone was whining about getting a ticket, and then reading the various humorous responses this would have surely caused.

You must be talking about the Home being auctioned on Brent Rd. thread.

Or maybe the Cherry "Sakura" Blossoms in DC thread.

Wait. I know. You mean the DEA at Gorman Crossings thread.

"Vehicle Code Section 210 reads (with emphasis added):

An "automated enforcement system" is any system operated by a governmental agency, in cooperation with a law enforcement agency, that photographically records a driver's responses to a rail or rail transit signal or crossing gate, or both, or to an official traffic control signal described in Section 21450, and is designed to obtain a clear photograph of a vehicle's license plate and the driver of the vehicle.

Note the word "clear."
"

If they don't have a clear picture of your face you can fight it and win.

I don't remember which state that law is from, but there are places in NC that have had the cameras turned off because of this point. The city started loosing the cases and the stoped the red light photo system.

Right now, the ticket is sent to the registered owner of the vehicle. It is the owner's responsibility to pay the fine, or pass it off to the person who was driving the car.
